It would. Acting in concert with the US Navy's Aegis Ashore radar station in Poland, UKR would stand a dighting chance against Russian MIRVs. The take-away is that Putin so fears NATO weapons, that he has attempted nuclear blackmail. It wont work. He's bluffing.

They said, 'It was not an 'Intercontinental Ballistic missile'-- which was parsing the truth. The Yar, which IS an ICBM did not travel on an 'intercontinental' trajectory. Meaning only that it was used within the contentment of Eurasia.

The 'Yar' has a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 100m, (meaning it will land within 100m of a programmed target. It is assessed that the US monitored the Russian launch facility at Astrakhan and was alerted to the Yar being readied for launch.

The multi staged missile uses both solid / liquid fueled engines and can be deployed from Transport Erector Launch (TEL) vehicles, or from silos. It has a range of 11,000 Km (6,800 Mi), a max speed of Mach 25 (19,000 mph).

It is likely that the missile launched at Ukraine deployed 8 decoy MIRVs. These re-entry vehicles traveled at Mach 25 (19,000 mph) and cause significant damage to the areas the impacted.

The ‘Yar’ an upgrade the Topol-M ICBM, utilizing a payload “bus” modified to carry Multiple Independently Targeted Reentry Vehicles (MIRVs). The weapon is capable of delivering a total of 8 reentry vehicles— a mixture of live 200KT nuclear warheads and decoys.
