The top 1% evade $163 billion in taxes per year — enough to end homelessness, hunger, and pay for universal childcare. 👆🏻 This is the crime wave we should be talking more about.

@heardislandgov.bsky.social I saw this card and thought of you all down there, fighting the good fight. "... one can't be angry when one looks at a Penguin" - John Ruskin

Shout out to school governors everywhere, it's bizarre how little awareness there is about how much volunteer effort goes in to running education in this country. Education is a state responsibility, and along with welfare and healthcare, is chronically under-resourced.

it’s wild that they spent so much time teaching us history in school and basically no time teaching us future

What would YOU do if they triggered your fight or flight response and you couldn’t fly? FIX BEAKS! MAKE READY! HOLDDD!

Just accidentally survived an insane car ride across Rome - and paid for it - which might make me an accomplice in the greatest attempt ever to break every traffic law in a single journey. It stopped short of being a mini in a sewer, but it was close.

Stand with us, or fall against us. Flippers up.

Oh man, somebody get him out of there. He’s crazy.

True story- In high school I used to look after the outdoor activity equipment store with friend Ian. He read Private Eye and made jokes about Trump. I didn't get it at the time. I get it now. So yes, kids in England in 1990 already made fun of him.

Can now confirm that cautiously agreeing to be a mentor for Google Summer of Code was a grand error. I've nothing against the idea*, but the reality is grim. *for completeness, the idea that is Google pay students to work on useful open source projects within relevant community.

Hmm. Job interview. 2 stars, would not recommend.

Please see some of these incredible men I photographed working on the book Code Talker Stories. They were humble, proud, fearless patriots. Ronald Reagan declared August 14 to be national code talker day. Yjey cant be erased. www.deborahogrady.com/portfolio-it...

today i shall mostly be assuming that the planet is both spherical, and is big enough to look flat (small angle approximations rule in this world); that it is reasonable to assume a point spread function could indeed almost look like a rectangle if you squint enough... #remotesensing #space

AND ANOTHER THING - what the hell has happened to french mustard? why can i not buy it anywhere?? not dijon, not moutard a l'ancienne, but the cheap dark brown stuff that is very probably not french but is amazing.

oh and i'm torn between being annoyed at chromecast getting bricked and being pleased that the choice is out of my hands.

fixed weather station. created a fresh secure email identity with a nice company and EU-only hosting as part of degoogling. mopped the floor. said hello to the compost. fed the birds. patched firmware. syncd remote NAS. reset stuff. done pretty much all i can do to avoid finding a job.

Trump is back at Mar-a-Fraudo this weekend playing golf games. It costs about $3M to transport a POTUS from DC to South Florida. That's enough money that USAID could feed around 250,000 kids for two weeks.

My daughter's daycare just sent out an email about potentially needing to layoff staff because new babies about to start withdrew because of parental job losses. So if you're wondering how government layoffs and mass contract cancellations will affect the economy, here's an example

Give you one guess

I'll give you weapons, but I need you to do me a favor...first. I'll support your effort, but you're going to have to sign a mineral agreement...first. That's not diplomacy, folks. It's blackmail and extortion. If Congress had even a little bit of Yankee Doodleism, they'd impeach him again!

The moon and sky today have been spectacular. Congratulations universe.

Hi, just a reminder that when you use Libro.fm for your audiobooks, you support independent bookshops vs. large corporations that drive them out of business. We also pay taxes. And so do indie bookshops.

For the US to side with Russia and North Korea to oppose a UN resolution condemning the illegal invasion of Ukraine defies all common sense and adds insult to the countless injuries suffered by the brave Ukrainian people. edition.cnn.com/2025/02/24/p...
