“Make things weird, so the weird can make things” - @rushkoff.com. Need to get away from the mean, the average. Have loved Doug since “Program or Be Programmed.”

I clearly remember the year that screens were up all over SXSW with posts from this new site called Twitter flying by. I went home and joined. On my computer. Because we didn’t have smartphones yet! 2007. #sxsw #sxsw2025

But it is also important to encourage students to use critical thinking in understanding how AI platforms work and how to evaluate them. This is just the beginning of AI's impact on media education.

It was fun to see how students applied AI to their projects, but it was also interesting to get their insight into what it did and didn't do well. Not only does AI help with learning new concepts, it provides the agency and control for one to do so on their own.

I hope to see this direction take hold, as I just started teaching a few basic Vue exercises, but with a cdn link. The npm route is too convoluted for media students and doesn’t work well with our shared hosting options.

I have to add that Kirstie Alley’s monologue was perfect when the entire cast of Cheers (Woody, Frasier, Norm, Sam) came out to sing the Cheers theme song with her 😀

I doubt we thought then we’d be dealing with the same BS 33 years later. These episodes are historical archives. Sad that Hartman, Chris Farley, host Kirstie Alley, musical guest Tom Petty are no longer with us. 3/3

The gist of the sketch was the senators (not Biden, he was running the hearing, Nealon was perfect deadpan) asking Thomas for tips on picking up women.🤦♀️ Say what you will about SNL, but watching several episodes shows the pulse they have long had on politics. Often inappropriate, usually funny.2/3

But I have had a goal of adding a cross-platform solution to my mobile class for a long time. Today I got closer!

The overall learning outcome is key. "The exercise helped students reflect on their initial ideas, providing them with new perspectives and additional elements to consider in their projects." 3/3

I asked students to generate a canvas with ZigZag and then compare what it created to what they created. Then I asked ChatGPT to summarize the themes and pull out some key quotes. See the themes and key quotes in the images. 2/3

I particularly like the emphasis on reinforcement of learning and the confidence it gave students in their writing and ideas. It also gave them a chance to critique an AI tool in a meaningful way. Lots of opportunities for creative use of AI in the classroom!

I submitted the comments in total to ChatGPT and asked it to summarize the main points and themes. This is what it produced.

I asked them to take each of their posts and submit the links to NotebookLM to create an individual podcast of their work.
Then I asked them to share the link and to provide a few comments about what was produced.
