Caught The Straight Story last night. It was so tender and hopeful of a movie. I was a young teen when I first discovered Lynch and focused on all his weirder work. I skipped this one because it seemed boring. I'm glad I did because only as an adult I can appreciate it.

RIP David Lynch. Will we ever have a filmmaker as intriguing, sincere and talented ever again? He's definitely what Hunter S. Thompson would call "not meant for mass production." Too weird to live, too rare to die.

Started 1000 x Resist. Giving real mouthwashing vibes with the non linear storytelling; I think that may be my favorite current theme in gaming. Lots of comparisons to Nier but I'm not seeing it due to the lack of combat. Plot wise maybe but that's just one part of The Nier package.

Turns out skipping Vault 15 in Fallout 1 just makes everything harder. I knew it didn't have the water chip so I thought it was a dead end. What it does have is some good loot and easy to get xp. And that's why it's taken my fifth playthrough in 10 years to actually go farther than the hub.

Just saw the Abbot x Sunny crossover. The gang was super tame but it's meant as a gateway to sunny so I get it. Really wish we got more Dennis in there too. Charlie is the best, as usual.

All games are art but some are better than others. If the only artistic value is from the narrative, i.e. cutscenes, it's not as strong as a game that integrates gameplay well. The last of us is better as a show. OTOH how could you possibly adapt something like Cruelty Squad or Mouthwashing?

I've got to rewatch The Godfather soon. I haven't seen it since I was way too young to have watched it.

New year means new works entering the public domain. This is easily my favorite public domain movie, but does anyone else have any recommendations? If you've never seen a silent film this is an excellent one to start with. Very funny and easy to watch. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_...!

Just saw The Substance last night. God I'm so happy that we have such a gross movie with such great cinematography, and it's popular as hell to boot. It feels like big swings are paying off more and more lately.

Everyone in this movie is hilariously incompetent. Loved it.

People who don't watch black and white, silent or foreign films: why not? I honestly don't get it. I grew up watching Charlie Chaplin so I thought everyone else did too but apparently not!

I'm watching Tracy Morgan do commentary on the 30 Rock episode "Tracy Does Conan". He repeats himself constantly, laughs at jokes in the show and he's clearly eating throughout the entire thing. It's perfect.

Well that was absolutely incredible. Hokey at times, but that actually adds to the dreamlike nature of it. Just incredible stuff from Robert Mitchum too, and the use of shadows is just masterful.

Now watching: Night Of The Hunter

Was there really a major shift like this? Good looking people have been the majority in movies since the beginning. Elvis did not star in 50 movies because he was a good actor, he was just popular and hot. Silent films produced people like Greta Garbo.
