> we opened federation
Where? Is there a different server we can use somewhere?
comment in response to

13 million users all on one centralized server LEL

No you’re correct. There is not one instance of an alternate to the main Bluesky server infrastructure. Nobody is using it and it’s seemingly no longer prioritized.

That is what I am looking for too. I thought maybe the Brazilian government would at least run their own since they were so concerned with regulation and stuff. Haven’t seen one single alternative yet

This is why federation exists, right? When will federation happen…

I know this is the last thing you want to hear, but have you tried Bun? It’s awesome

This is Twitter with a butterfly logo until the federation is actually utilized lol

The (limited) federation was launched earlier this year, and since then I feel that any (real) decentralization progress has stalled. The team's interest has changed to App topics like user grow, moderation, video integration, or unencrypted DMs.

Yes! That’s awesome. I basically wants Quiet Posters to be ranked much higher in the “what you missed” feed.
comment in response to

Twitter used to have a “while you were away” feed.
It needs to firstly take into account how often someone posted in that timeframe and rank them up if it wasn’t much.
Then order all the posts in terms of engagement (engagement including friends-of-friends activity)
comment in response to
post
Correct. It makes you think “why bother”?
The only way you get engagement is if you have extremely online friends (all of the top Bluesky accounts have this).
If your friend that maybe checks once per day follows just one account that posts a *lot*, they won’t see your stuff.

Last tweet from developer accounts was 17+ days ago. Looking forward to it!

I tried to tell people that the invite system only breeds resentment and kills hype. Exactly the same thing happened to Clubhouse with their invite system. It doesn’t make it feel more “exclusive” and thus more desirable. It feels like rejection and disregard.

I thought ActivityPub requires server to server auth which minimizes unwanted use of data www.w3.org/wiki/SocialC...
comment in response to

In theory then, deletes on At Proto are equally as “real” as they are on Nostr. Which is to say that they are “requests” at best
comment in response to
post
In Nostr, once you sign a message and send it to a relay, you basically have no control over it. There is no authentication beyond that point. So the note can be spread far and wide and accessed anywhere. Activity Pub isn’t like this though
comment in response to
post
So At Proto is actually the same as Nostr in this regard

I was just trying to emphasize that playing whack-a-mole is often not what people actually want.
If we write a good user story like “I want to do ___” we could probably arrive at whitelist a lot of the time where we think we want blacklist
comment in response to
post
Yes we agree on that hahah
comment in response to
post
I see what you’re saying, but do you understand what I’m saying?
Why not both? They said that adding whitelist ability is in the roadmap at some point, just don’t know when
comment in response to
post
That’s just playing whack-a-mole at that point. They just make new accounts and nothing can stop them
comment in response to
post
Yep, it is for apple at least. But I guess my point is that a whitelist for posts would solve the issue more holistically. Let us have something like twitter’s circles feature that gives us the peace of mind that certain posts will only be able to be read by some people

When will you remove the prompt to save/share someone’s profile pic? It’s strange and out of place. Downright creepy 😬

Viewing but not interacting is the definition of “mute”, no?
They are interacting with a brick wall at that point, not you.
comment in response to

1. It wouldn’t need to be permanent. Could even be on a post by post basis.
2. Block is a false sense of security. Easily bypassed.
comment in response to

I prefer the bluesky app method that simply lets you tag which language you’re writing a post in. And in that way, also let’s you tell the app which languages you would like to see posts in.
When u go the auto-translation route, you’re sending peoples’ posts to a third party without their consent
comment in response to
post
Asking because my understanding is that private posts are just not possible on bluesky by design. So the idea that reply-gating is possible is shocking. Because I would have thought both are implemented in a similar way (whitelist a list of users, give them a shared secret basically)
comment in response to
post
Why can users have a filter of who can reply but not a filter of who can see it?
What is the difference that makes one possible and the other not?
comment in response to
post
How is reply-gating possible if private posts aren’t possible?
