it is unbelievable how much gas you can get in the pundit game by simply remembering things that happened within the decade

One thing that’s kinda funny about the McGovern Park proposal is the conceptual rendering expands the parking lot of the center and new apartments. If there’s concern about losing green space to concrete, that would be a great place to start

2 ghost buses in a row?? How does that even happen?

My partner is waiting in Whitefish Bay and has seen 3 Bayshore bound buses before 1 Airport bound bus. Not great @ridemcts.bsky.social!

It’ll never happen, but it would be great if we could take a big picture look at taxes and credits to make it more efficient. Where can we turn a tax credit into a subsidy or change the tax structure to provide the same relief to low income individuals

That’s a good question. Personally, I like the idea of the transferred votes being based on the weighted average of first cast votes. So if there are 10 votes and only 7 are needed, each of the 2nd ranked votes are now worth 3/10 of a vote

Can you elaborate? It feels like you’re thinking of STV vs MMP

Interesting. I guess it’s the connections from each city to the train that increase the overall time

The thing I like about advisory bike lanes is they ostensibly provide a better way for drivers to pass cyclists on a narrow street (as oppose to crossing a yellow line or having no markings and letting it be up to drivers)

Modal filters and other traffic calming elements (speed bumps, traffic circles, chicanes) definitely seem essential for any street where bikes and cars are still expected to interact.

I can’t believe there’s real opposition to this, especially when their main arguments are directly addressed by the proposal.

IMO, having Amtrak “brands” for groups of corridor routes (including NEC) and then having the LD routes be the main Amtrak brand seems like a fair way to categorize operations

The long distance trains are essential services that should be a funded mandate separate from the rest of Amtrak. They’re the most protected, with many Republican senators (like Moran and Wicker) sticking up for them

Ever since NYPD arrested Mayor Bill Deblasio's daughter in 2020 I have understood that Police in this country are in no way under the control of civilian administrations and there's no one with influence or power that want to address that.

I wonder if overall maintenance costs are higher. I don’t think Amtrak has a dedicated facility in DFW, so they have to do deadhead moves probably up to Chicago and Beech Grove, which sounds expensive

The Heartland Flyer does seem relatively expensive for the service it provides (with only one trainset needed I think for 8 revenue hours a day). But not 10x or more expensive.
comment in response to post
Oh wow that’s really cheap. It would be interesting to see a more detailed breakdown of expenses. The 2 biggest differences I can see are the host railroad (it seems like TEXRail owns the ROW) and equipment efficiencies (FLIRTS from 2015)

Why can’t there be state that structurally guarantees Jewish safety and freedom while also allowing non-Jews to be safe and free as well.
comment in response to post
Probably in maintenance for old equipment, diesel fuel, and leasing rights to the track from the host railroad, plus all the onboard staff. It’s pretty consistent with the rest of Amtrak’s routes

Looking up the project documents, the estimated cost is $3.7 million, which is way cheaper that the $17 million being spent for the airport rail station (even when considering the cost of the platform and connections. Also I’m sure it’s way faster too

Interesting that this was the method for a trail tunnel near Ann Arbor. Should have been able to do the same thing here www.instagram.com/reel/DKflYrL...

Looked back at those games and it actually wasn’t until Game 5 that our starting lineup looked reasonable. We would have won Games 1 and 5 (and maybe 4) and would have had good opportunities in Games 6 and 7 if needed
