I think the power of Lynch is shown in the fact that people say something is "Lynchian" much like "Kafkaesque", even when they haven't experienced Lynch's art directly. Yet, they know exactly what it means because his art has permeated our culture and that's wonderful.

Watching The Lord of The Rings, as you do over the festive period, and (again) I am amazed by how well it is adapted from the book and how breathtaking the scale is. 25 (!) years later and nothing comes close. Is it because everything costs so much and is shot in front of green screen?
