A small win for public health! "The sources said the administration had concerns about Weldon’s longtime vaccine criticism."

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121

Hickenlooper is holding a virtual town hall tonight. If he votes to pass the CR, Coloradans need to hold him accountable for enabling Trump and Musk's hostile takeover. Starts at 5pm MT: www.hickenlooper.senate.gov/live/ @indivisible-co.bsky.social @indivisible.org

The NIH is cancelling studies investigating vaccine hesitancy after years of declining vaccination rates and amidst a measles outbreak 🤦‍♀️ www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

That didn't take anytime at all. What a waste. Defunding cancer research, health disparities research, gebe therapy and real vaccine research to waste the valuable time of scientists to study debunked conspiracies. www.reuters.com/business/hea...

The best way to prevent measles infection is getting the MMR vaccine. Hope that helps!

Oof, this is a hard read on the #measles response in Texas. TL;DR Greg Abbott and elected officials aren't going to do anything to encourage vaccination or suggest quarantines for those exposed. www.texastribune.org/2025/02/28/t...

RFK Jr. said in his Fox News OpEd that “Good nutrition remains a best defense against most chronic and infectious illnesses”. The best diet in the world will not prevent infection if you are unvaccinated and sharing air with someone who has measles.

Well, I'll be damned. Didn't expect to see a complete 180 on the #measles outbreak from RFK Jr. but nevertheless, I'm glad he's encouraging vaccination: www.foxnews.com/opinion/robe...

"They don’t need to outlaw contraception outright. They just need to make it harder and harder for people to get." - @jessicavalenti.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/jessica/...

Fighting for everyone is fighting for yourself. People can’t just look out for themselves and assume they’ll be able to access them elsewhere. America’s delays and non-production will impact everyone.

“It’s a six-month production cycle,” Dr. Offit said. “So one can only assume that we’re not picking flu strains this year.” --this is what Trump/RFK Jr have in store for Americans as they work to make the country "healthy again": mass illness and avoidable deaths. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/u...

RFK at his confirmation hearing: “I am not anti-vaccine” After RFK confirmed as HHS head: - CDC flu vaccine campaign pulled - Childhood vaccine schedule reviewed - Federal funding to schools with COVID vaccine mandates withdrawn - Meeting to update flu vaccines cancelled

I hope this trend continues. Vaccines are often their own worst enemy - because measles had largely been eliminated, people may not have considered it a serious risk until there were cases in their community. 1 dose of the MMR vaccine is 93% effective, and 2 doses are 97% effective. #VaccinesWork

Actually, a measles outbreak IS an unusual occurrence. Especially in a country like the US, which had eliminated the disease thanks to vaccination until recently. It's so unusual that most physicians in the U.S. have NEVER seen a case! www.nbcnews.com/now/video/-i...

I don't want to see a single media outlet talking about the Texas #measles outbreak without acknowledging the role of misinformation and specifically the anti-vaccine rhetoric spread by RFK Jr. Thank you, @wired.com for doing both: www.wired.com/story/measle...

If we learned anything from COVID19, and I’m not sure that we have, it’s that once misinformation goes viral, that genie can’t be put back in the bottle no matter how many scientists patiently explain why the information is incorrect. Corrections rarely if ever go viral themselves.

"Shifting the framing of advertising for vaccines that the CDC has long recommended — like flu shots — to more heavily focus on the risks of vaccines could undermine people’s willingness to get vaccinated, or to have their children immunized" www.statnews.com/2025/02/20/c... #VaccinesWork

This isn't about ensuring food purchased with SNAP benefits is healthy. The GOP is also trying to cut Medicaid...so it's not like they'd be bearing the cost of poor health outcomes anyways. This is about restricting benefits, and reducing people's autonomy to make choices about what they eat.

At a time when critical information has gone missing from federal websites, there are still lots of public health and science communicators providing important and timely updates. I'll keep adding to this thread with some of my go-to resources and will tag them if here. #publichealth #healthcomm

Friendly reminder that it's not too late to get your flu shot. (Image via @kkjetelina.bsky.social)

As more States propose mask bans, I want to take a moment to discuss claims that it’s “fear mongering” to say that masking is illegal. People claim the medical exemption is “good enough”. This ignores three critical points. Public perception, anti mask sentiment and rampant ableism 🧵

This commission statement refers to people with Autism, ADHD, asthma, auto-immune disease, and chronic illness as a “dire threat to the American people and our way of life”. This is a manifesto against disability. This is the language of eugenics.

It's the worst flu season in about 15 years, so surely removing relevant information about vaccination will help us get a handle on it.

A very sad day for our organization 😞 This is a direct result of Elon Musk's attacks on USAID: www.devex.com/news/global-...

Giving infectious disease research a break, as promised by the MAHA agenda. Let's break down what exactly this Executive Order is *really* saying. Fortunately, I speak fluent anti-vax grifterese & can translate. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Though it felt inevitable after weeks of anti-science attacks by this administration, this is still incredibly disheartening 😞

I know there's been years of disinfo downplaying the flu in order to dismiss COVID as a threat, but both things cause serious illness and are best avoided. This flu wave is no joke. It's a good idea to get this season's flu vaccine (it's not too late), and wear a well-fitting mask like an N95.

Courts *ordered* the Trump admin to stop its spending freeze Yet ProPublica found place after place where $ is still frozen -hot meals for elderly and disabled -groceries for those in need -maternal & child health services -a clinic that serves the poor www.propublica.org/article/trum...

measles cases skyrocketing worst flu A year in a decade tuberculosis back with a vengence H5N1 on the brink covid never left ERs overwhelmed healthcare CEO gunned down DOGE boys love eugenics like ??? wear a fucking mask you guys like what more is it going to take

Avian flu is a conservation and public health crisis. 18,000 dead baby elephant seals. Terns having seizures on beaches. Outbreaks among livestock. Human deaths. Draining research funds and gagging the CDC is dangerous for the whole planet. So are proposed mask bans. We need those n95s. 🪶 🌿

Tick... Tick... Tick... Letting a virus run rampant means more viral evolution and it doesn't mean it becomes milder. It's like people learned nothing from SARS-CoV-2. 🤔

The government censoring scientists is horrific. But what is even more horrific is that many non-government scientists and institutions are self-censoring themselves because they are scared of the government and losing funding. Authoritarianism wins when we comply in advance!

RFK Jr. is a danger to public health. Every Republican senator who votes yes will own the consequences. When RFK Jr. follows anti-vax conspiracies instead of science, when he greenlights Trump's anti-abortion agenda, when he cuts healthcare for seniors — remember who voted yes.
