social media being boring by default should be the norm. you shouldn't feel compelled to waste hours on sites like these unless you're engaged in something truly meaningful. now's the time to get up and chase your dreams

and don't tell me that the people complaining don't care about that last point; if they didn't care then they'd be okay with not constantly being stimulated with new things to rage or chuckle at. some folks are just suffering from engagement withdrawal rn

Note: I have neglected to mention the metal characters and Super Sonic. That is because I do not find them interesting to play as

Also, sega co-opting the sonic r logo onto the modern sonic racing games was one of gaming's greatest tragedies and they are all fools for not expanding on the on-foot/platform racimg concept. you are sitting on a Gold Mine.

Granted, the balloon hunting mode does give players a taste of the single-player mode's challengee, but it's not really the same thing. I think a potential sequel integrating the detours and collectables into multiplayer properly in some form would make for a better experience overall

It's the kind of game loop that would seriously benefit from having more stages to learn and master the routes of... On a similar note, it's odd that the multiplayer modes don't bother with any of the collectables and default to simple 1 on 1 races

The stages in question have two main collectables: Chaos Emeralds (which count towards unlocking the final track) and character tokens (which do as the name implies, giving you the chance to race and unlock each track's hidden character); getting everything in one race is quite demanding, yet fun

Amy can't jump, similar to Robotnik, but has a rough time handling sharp corners due to being in a full-on car. She does have a ring-powered turbo boost you can activate at will, but it makes her turning basically useless until it runs out. It's a tough but doable challenge to ace the stages as her

Sonic and Tails are top tier, Knuckles has a glide that can bust the track open if used smartly, and Robotnik can't jump but instead glides over water and has missiles to stun players (albiet poorly). These characters are viable in normal play, but not Amy... and I like that fact.

when i say "altering the way you move" i am referring to more than simple stat changes, by the way. each character in Sonic R not only has different stats but different movement or offensive abilities, with some being good/easy picks and some being so limited that they act as self-imposed challenges
comment in response to

On-foot racing that still controls like a car... platforming elements... secrets that challenge you to take detours and still finish in good standing...
characters that offer different strengths and challenges through or altering the way you move...
there's a lot of good material in there

so i guess it's not as big of a problem as i make it seem... but it's still tough to write stuff like that, y'know? i was a little out of my comfort zone and it wasn't perfect as a result. guess that's how the business goes sometimes

i only mention the rhythm game thing because i just finished up a song i made for a FNF mod (yes it's that mario thing i posted a few weeks ago), and the final segment is kinda shitty to me because i felt bad not putting in a more complex segment for when it gets charted
comment in response to

it mostly happens when i'm trying to write blazingly fast sections, like the kinda shit you'd hear in one of those super hard rhythm game songs... i do better with writing slower melodies where i have more space to work with and less chances to repeat myself, i suppose

rooftops gave me more shit than the final special stage did. not even joking, i blew all my continues on the final drop like 5 times before i wised up and started practicing in free play mode. thank god they let you do that without having beaten the stage beforehand

to anyone who, like me, tried the game at launch and got burnt out, give it another shot on the latest version. it might not turn you over but it's a markedly improved experience, especially in the grand prix.
and if a kart krew dev somehow finds this post... thank you for your time and dedication.
