The threat of Christian Nationalism is very real. It seeks to undermine secular government & impose Christianity's rules on all of us. It's not surprising that a Christian academic isn't super worried about that.

Americans in red states are mad because they feel they are being left behind. There many structural forces working against the economies of rural areas and fixing then is complex and likely untenable (e.g. effects of Walmart/Amazon on local economies).
