i am kinda torn about them in that IMO need much more speed and urgency and acknowledgement of what we face and the response it requires, but also i saw a stunning amount of people i know who have never expressed any interest in anything like this showing up, and wanting more now!

i should have stated this first but i am NOT suggesting it was a waste, if anything i wish id done MORE - but the 3.5% posts are so weird to be cuz.. thats a lot of people! and also small enough that without dems willing to fight its largely pissing into the wind

locally, our single win was getting armed SROs out of our the highschool, and we were only able bc the contract was ending and needed renewal... and in the few years since we *ADDED* SROs to grade + middle schools, criminalized the homeless, and added a curfew.

there were ~20m total US participants in BLM protests summer 2020, 20m/330m = a little over 6% of US pop and it was broadly a failure! "change in view of police" is good, but we werent taking pepper balls to the face even in maine for a slight sentiment shift, know what i mean?

Tbf this is exactly how it went in 2020. Literally millions of us tried to warn people that this is what American policing is and eventually it will be turned against you too if we let is fester... and, well, we let it fester.

we got "pro-vaccine groups" and "this parade is to celebrate the history of the military" in the same week. nothing trump and his fascists have accomplished would be possible without the knowing and intentional support and enabling of the NYT

i feel genuinely bad that basically anyone younger than early-mid 20s has basically only experienced the most dogshit form of the internet. youtube once had no ads! streaming services were once good content AND a great value! google used to be such a reliable search engine it became a verb!
