This generation's satanic panic.

Attacks on abortion and trans rights are disturbingly similar—and the Skrmetti arguments at the Supreme Court were a prime example. The playbook: *Claiming bans aren’t bans *Making flawed global comparisons *Weaponizing consent and regret *Invoking eugenics *Leaving human rights to the states

Tough call

Trans folks held a dance party in the Capitol bathroom to protest the bathroom ban on there.

I’m living for the day they will snuggle. It’s getting closer.

I come from the right, and I get angry with Democrats for not fighting the Right on culture war issues. The right believes transgenderism must be erased. That is NOT what most Americans believe. Democrats, most Americans are where you are on this issue. But you gotta FIGHT for them on this issue.

It’s genuinely shocking if you’re remotely familiar with the basic facts of trans care and youth medicine. It is *profoundly* difficult to access gender-affirming care as a minor and the Times has printed more than a dozen articles implying that it is too easy.

Irreparable damage of puberty blockers but half of American boys get concussions from repeatedly running into each other and call it “football”

my not-unprofessional opinion is this trans youth care ban would not be before the Supreme Court at all if not for Alliance Defending Freedom (aka the people who brought you Dobbs) and would not be treated as a "tough" issue for "even liberals" if not for the New York Times

So, that was it. Oral arguments in US vs Skrmetti is now in the history books, though the judgement won't come until June. I haven't read other commentary. Not yet. I wanted to write a thread of my impressions first, and see what the experts are saying afterwards. 🧵

I'm not kidding when I say that somewhere down the line, someone needs to seriously consider nominating Chase Strangio for a seat on the Supreme Court.

Wondering what's happening with the U.S. vs. Skrmetti Supreme Court case this week? Here are some resources 🧵

As SCOTUS hears arguments today in the US vs Skrmetti case, here's a helpful research brief on the benefits of family and community support for trans youth compiled by the @ncfr.bsky.social

Reporting from the Supreme Court on transgender rights in the Skrimetti case and I feel the weight of the moment. I will report from the court throughout the day when I am allowed my phone. Thank you all for putting me in a place where I can do this work for you.

1. In a major development, the first national consensus guidelines for trans youth have been released in France. They recommend affirmation and medical care, denounce "wait and see." They refute much of the Cass Review. Subscribe to support my journalism. www.erininthemorning.com/p/new-french...

OHHHHH MY GOD apnews.com/article/wisc...

People need to ground themselves right now. Moving into an era of shock and awe politics in a reactive state will not yield anything worthwhile. What centers you? What gives you strength? Your friends? The land? The water? This is a time to tap into what heals and calms us.

On Wednesday, please join families, advocates, celebrities, and members of Congress outside the Supreme Court as we rally in defense of transgender people's freedom to access the health care we need act.aclu.org/a/trans-rall...

They are starting to bond.

I tricked them into snuggling tonight.

Study of 220 trans youths about “4.8 yrs after beginning puberty blockers and 3.4 years after beginning hormones,” found “very high levels of satisfaction and low levels of regret; the overwhelming majority (97%) continued to access gender-affirming medical care.” jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Should I buy it?

1/ When I came out as a trans woman at 28, I thought I’d caught the wave. Progress felt inevitable: transition care was becoming more accessible, tolerance was growing, and we were allowed to hope for a kinder world.
