This would make a hilarious shitpost...

none of these people are capable of analyzing politics in terms anything other than their narrowest and most petty resentments

I have genuinely tried to use it for a number of tasks and it has failed every one while demanding that I ask it to summarize two line emails or describe what's in my file folders to me. The idea we are stubbornly refusing to use an amazing product out of spite just feels like cope for boosters.

L.A. Taco has confirmed with the family of 20yr old Adrian Andrew Martinez, who was taken by ICE while working at Walmart in Pico Rivera, is a US citizen who was speaking up for his coworker that was detained. ~ @eltragon.bsky.social

Congrats to Tucker Carlson for successfully reminding people that he still exists.

Warms the heart to see “AI made this person nuts” and “this other person is in deranged romantic love with AI” news stories running alongside “AI is here to stay” tech columns. Looking forward to no one knowing how to do anything by the time I’m whatever descriptor has replaced “retirement age”

Can someone help Thumper and @phillypaws.bsky.social? We adopted our Talulah from there a dozen years ago. They’re a wonderful shelter.

Someone had a bummer of a birthday weekend, huh?

Not to get too hopeful on main but fascism hinges on the projection of strongman invincibility and every ding and crack in that image is a win for resistance. And boy howdy was there some good dinging and cracking delivered today

"...and fate--a cruel, laughing fate--granted Donald his wish. It will always be his birthday. He will always be here, listening to basic military history facts, squeaky tanks and the feigned excitement of dozens of sycophants singing happy birthday despite wishing him anything but..."

Had this same thought yesterday. If we make it through this with anything like a functioning democracy, an annual reminder/recommitment to republicanism.

Fwiw arstechnica did a better write up of what he believes and it's more fucked up and more clearly based in eugenics He says it's miasma theory but in classic RFK Jr. fashion he defines it wrong. It would actually be better if he believed in miasma theory than his actual beliefs imho

I go to bed tonight proud to know how many people are willing to stand up for what’s right — and how few are willing to rally for his hate. Night, all, and let us try to be good to one another — and ourselves.

Good news guys we can all go home--the cavalry has arrived!

Tressie is always brilliant but this is a master class: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/13/o...

Well this is just fucking beautiful...

Ah, Brooklyn

If you take one thing away from today, let it be that we outnumber them.

Damn! So hard to have a sense of size when you're in it

The Gang bows to no one... #NoKings Philly

So this week we’ve had a man impersonating an ICE agent tie up a woman and steal $1000; a man impersonating a police officer assassinate a top Democratic politician & her husband (and shoot another Democrat & his wife); and a man impersonating a king hold a military parade for his birthday

#NoKings Philly

Philly says #NoKings

Oh this is truly inspired. Bravo.

Authoritarians want you to feel isolated and alone, to feel like their vision of the world is the only one. That’s why taking part in public protests matters. You connect with other people like you and you show those numbers off to the world. It’s a great feeling. Try it!

I have a recurring nightmare in which I post dumb jokes to distract myself from the terror of being alive

Referring to events in Ballymena as "disturbances" is a euphemism too far. We are witnesses to a pogrom. And it behoves us to say so, loud and clear. www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle-co...

If you can't attend the rallies today for whatever reasons, something useful you can do is scour your local news outlets for coverage and share the coverage on social media and pump it out to all of your networks. Amplify what's happening locally so others in your communities are aware.

Hanif Abdurraqib with the literary punch in the face: "When will you realize that your country is a myth? And, if you already have, what might you do next?" www.newyorker.com/culture/post...

I no longer view the crisis before us as a GOP vs. Democrat issue, and I haven't for a long time. This is a profound issue of choosing to fight supremacist politics, of necropolitics-- of whether you believe it's worth protecting people's right to live with a measure of dignity and respect, period

Excited to see that black people performing country music are only eligible for 3/5ths of a Grammy

How do people have the brainspace for this? If you don't like a platform, leave it. If enough people agree with you, it will die (remember Circles? neither do I). If it continues it just wasn't for you but it IS for the people who stayed. Everybody wins!

Oh man, she conjures up so many warm memories of adolescence for me. Fuck cancer and fuck people who lie about cures for cancer...

i am not being pollyannish when i insist that the people who sign up do not sign up to advance a president’s domestic political agenda www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Feels kinda important to point out that if non-citizens are required to carry proof of legal status, then citizens do too by default. This is absolutely insane.

It’s completely insane that US troops are illegally deployed to suppress domestic opposition and it’s not uniformly condemned by the press and political elite.

I'm sure this is a much bigger issue for large accounts but anyone coming at me or anyone else with bad faith, misinformation, or nasty/cruel comments is instantly blocked. As a result I see a range of center-left to left opinions and mostly civil disagreements.

the scientific consensus is not in favor of scientific racism. quite the opposite. the people who promote scientific racism use pseudoscience and rhetorical fudging - "we all know what the numbers REALLY say" - to win support from innumerate amateurs who are impressed with their own intelligence.

ngl this map of scheduled protests for this weekend is *wild*

"At its heart the Trump Administration is violently divisive, isolationist, and segregationist, and solidarity is our first duty and most profound rejection of that agenda." for this insight, Solnit has been suspended from fb www.meditationsinanemergency.com/some-notes-o...

Well this is nice.

Born in the 20th century. Looks like I'll die in the 16th.

You have no obligation to defend or explain the behavior of random street protesters. We have a lawless government that is flagrantly violating its legal, moral, even philosophical obligations to us. Everything else is secondary
