It's worth noting that the ideas of the French revolution weren't the ONLY reason why enslaved people developed class consciousness in Haiti. Much of that came about independently.
Several slave revolts occured prior to the revolution, even if they failed. People will always seek liberation.

There is more mainstream media with lesbian main characters than main characters who are gay men.
This is because (fictional, idealized, EXCLUSIVELY CISGENDER) lesbians are less threatening to the patriarchy.
