National Pet Day seems a good excuse for a picture of the wagster. #NationalPetDay (The good boy in my profile picture was her predecessor.)

I was fortunate enough to grow up within walking distance of all of this. 😍

More exciting subduction insight from the VoiLA project 🧪⚒️🌋

🧪🌋⚒️ Powerful display: 200m high #lava fountain and 700m long lava flow from episode 16 of Kilauea summit eruption, 1-Apr-25, as seen from #USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory helicopter overflight. They report a 1.5 m-thick tephra blanket has formed near the vent since eruption beginning, 23-Dec-24.

Just, brilliant.

Stunning!

Fascinating ideas from @thwbecker.bsky.social's team that link up with ideas Robert Hall proposed for plate deformation in SE Asia. Tectonic plates are much less stable entities than usually depicted, even over (geologically) quite short timescales. doi.org/10.1144/sp35...

Animation showing a north-south rupture in the ground west of the Irrawaddy River, Mandalay, Myanmar, after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck on 28 March. In response to the disaster, #CopernicusEMS and the #DisastersCharter have been activated to provide satellite imagery to help relief efforts.

“The eruption fissure that opened shortly before 10am is now 700 m long and has not grown for about an hour. The 2nd fissure, which opened just inside the barriers shortly before 11am, is considerably smaller but appears to be trying to extend S towards Grindavík.“ 🧪⚒️ www.ruv.is/english/2025...

Glassy lava from Tongoa Island, Vaunatu, in plane polarised light. Clinopyroxene and plagioclase form glomerophyric clusters. These are surrounded by rounded vesicles (gas bubbles) frozen into the brown glass (liquid) when the lava was rapidly quenched #ThinSectionThursday 🧪⚒️
