it's state propaganda now

I find “people don’t actually know how things work” has a lot of explanatory power. I don’t mean this in a holier-than-thou way. I’m only vaguely aware of how my microwave or the car radio work. A lot of modern life is assuming the functioning of complex tech and models.

Protests aren’t the only tool in the anti-authoritarian toolkit, but they’re incredibly important. Protests help us see each other; they make it feel safer to refuse to obey the dictator, and make it more possible for us to organize mass non-cooperation. It’s an essential step in the process.

Sammelthread der "Hands Off" Proteste in den USA. Gerne ergänzen... Louisville, Kentucky

That ‘I find myself having to defend someone I think is annoying from someone I know is dangerous’ quote really is a good distillation of our times. And many people in the center evidently think this is a difficult decision.

Journalism ratfucked democracy. They wanted to be kingmakers, and in the process, purposefully downplayed how bad Trump and Republicans were.

"There's more to life than being able to buy cheap garbage," sagely intones the man who had a complete mental breakdown from which he has never recovered because he couldn't go to big box stores and chain restaurants for 3 weeks in 2020.

Too many people assumed too late in the game that effective altruists and rationalists were mostly just weird nerds with little influence on real world policy: well, now they’ve got their disease-releasing spores implanted in the White House, USAID has been shuttered, and millions will die.

Back at it this afternoon for awhile at least

A Somerville, MA resident sends along this image of all the people who turned out for an emergency rally today for Romeysa Ozturk, the Tufts University PhD international student who was essentially abducted by ICE yesterday. Thousands came "on six hours' notice."

Leaning into streaming here. Appreciate any support, however small!

it is both true that i think bernie fucking blows on immigration and always has, and also true that i think his appearing at huge rallies and riling people up is a good thing and i don’t see a contradiction here, and i also don’t intend to let anyone argue me in either direction

23andMe is going under. Californians have the right to delete their genetic data before it's turned over to next party buying the assets. If you have a 23andMe account, go log in to download whatever reports you want to save, then follow these instructions to delete your data.

Oh wow shocked the media quoted the cringe lib trans woman to portray her as a quisling when actually she said the complete opposite of what they implied. Gee I'm sure this will be just as widely shared as the original story and the original false claim won't just get endlessly circulated right

Here’s the thing, guys (gender neutral sense). Things look grim in the US if you’re not a dickhead, or if you are but you’re not stupid. That said, I would invite you to consider that our enemies are so weak that they’re doing all this because they’re mad they aren’t popular on college campuses.
