It's so so tiresome. Like, 'I'll just implode various systems and admins that will absolutely immiserate and kill people - but think about *my* children' Also, hardly unique, but I'm incredibly tired of 'corruption' or 'waste' just redounding to 'shit I don't like'

Yeah, largely abandoning reconstruction only 6 years after the war had some consequences. You can see the same in a lot of rural California too.

The 'mandate' stuff is so annoying. I had to pull up results on my phone since my dad - while low info on everything - insisted on arguing with my sister and I. And he's not even the most ideological or anything, just a cynical bastard who's watched far to much Rogan and similar comedian types

Tbh this idea might have legs

Also recall not engaging with the reality that until very recently the huge portion of prisoner-firefighters in Cali couldn't pursue that profession after incarceration.

It's often all vibes based assumptions driving everything. For one, Specifically remember trying to explain to my folks a few years back how many ppl will leave prison in debt from charges accrued *in prison* and they adamantly denied that happens.

It's often the cocksure confidence with no basis in reality that gets to me.

It *is* still posturing from Vance. You're also specifically advocating for 'high testosterone' signaling is a preferable posture. I see that as a dead end for society in the long run - so 🤷‍♂️. I won't engage further.

Some paranoid teacher, admin, or parent freak is gonna give a lot of kids major complexes if any enforcement is attempted here The former may bend and break due to the fear and fixation on 'parental rights' too ffs this is so so dumb

Dems ought to be more confrontational and clear eyed in their vision and stand full throated in their convictions. Giving in to pure braggadocio and testosterone fueled posturing is a pretty good way to continue a declining spiral. Those for cruel politics will largely not go for the diet version

Vance himself is a Yale trained fancy lad entirely posing as a tough guy who has disdain for the people who continue to struggle in his home region. The extent to which he - and most modern conservatives - 'win' these debates is through Gish gallop and blatant lies no one corrects

Format is a dharma talk on the chosen topic followed by 30-40 min guided meditation. This is also nice if you do not have a personal practice and/or local community to join.

like this is a version of my own 'k-12 school doesn't teach enough useful things' - but truly, the extent of gov/civics edu I received before leaving highschool was half a semester and was fairly rudimentary info.

Before really getting marginal tax rates (and being in a conservative environment from a young age), it was rather easy to take me in with the tax arguments as I had no concept of how it worked and money was a very esoteric idea at that point.

and this *does* come up after watching a small portion of the Jubilee vid. Clearly most of the interlocutors have no idea, but this ignorance is probably fairly high even among some fellow travelers obv the conservative media ecosystem is creating a great deal of confusion in the mix.

And tbf - I have trouble convincing ppl I talk to, I think the idea of a single family home with a yard is just so inculcated in our culture

Is bloc construction just shorthand for 5-over-1 or larger structures? I could be wrong, but this really just feels like a necessity to encourage if there's any hope of improving prices in the long run

totally - moved to the district after the election. I was heartened that he won as the last called election since it absolutely could have been worse.

And please, the identity of X doesn't change things for me. I want a coalition, and I want all positive things I see in that coalition taken at their value. It's the weaponizing of one's good actions to go after other coalition members that I can't stand

Its really hard when people do that cynical dividing stuff… and just refuse to focus on what any democrat will bring to the table that will be better than a republican. Rep Adam Gray of California 13 Blue Dog Whip on the bird flu. Newly flipped seat. :) youtu.be/uoxfqRlFLWE?...

Ah that's my rep

Yeah this would almost certainly metastasize into a pretty gnarly institution fairly quickly. The history of residential schools and even contemporary Wilderness programs largely bear this out.

And like the way to get there is to reorient k-12 schools and return to an emphasis on classics and more engaging contemporary works. I probably would not have my reading interests without a teacher in 10th grade assigning All the Pretty Horses and handing me Call Me Ishmael for free reading

And I think it genuinely metastasizes into rank nihilism for many - which idk, not sure how long a society can function that way
