My son had to take a make up benchmark math test today. Told him to do his best and after school we can go for a treat. I was in a meeting when he got off the bus and couldn't remind him before he caught an ice cream truck. He remembered I promised a treat after I got off work. Ended up with a fish.

A teacher friend of mine shared with me a template of what she used to call her representative. Feel free to make it your own! First introduce yourself, name, where you live, where you work, for how long, what grade, subject, etc.

Download the 5calls app! What a great tool. I'm someone who hates calling people I don't know but this app is very helpful in just getting it done to have my voice heard!

Instead of cutting actually needed education programs can we all just agree to sacrifice learning the recorder as a compromise? I think we can all reach across the aisle and come together in solidarity that we all hate hearing hot cross buns screeching out of those vile plastic tubes of hell.

Texas school district property taxes go directly to fund the state funding formula and are distributed to each school district primarily using the Basic Student Allotment. This means the amount each district receives isn’t just based on local taxes—it 100% depends on the state funding formula.

Texas schools are closing because the state won't increase the funding per child. Call your representative and demand they put our property tax to use instead of hoarding it in a rainy day fund. This is hurting our children and their families.

When you are from Spring TX and are prepared for hurricanes not snow you must improvise.

Paco loves National Geographic shows. Especially when the coyotes and wolves are doing exciting things. Then he has to patrol the backyard for possums and squirrels. Have a great week!

I'm on day 3 of my new job. Day 1 was awkward and anxious. Day 2 was me killing myself to show off my awesomeness and still feeling awkward. Day 3 was easier. After 14 years working alone it is fun to have a team.

I remember in elementary school learning President Carter was a peanut farmer. I still remember the day when I saw a picture of him in Social studies and was shocked he didn't look at all like the Planter's Mr. Peanut. Rest in love and peace President Carter. Your service to help will be missed.

Good night all!

The money we invest in our schools matters, just look at everything a school district's budget has to cover. But when inflation rises without sufficient additional support, that money can’t go as far. Watch our latest video to learn more: bit.ly/theschooldol... #FundOurSchools #TxLege #TxEd

Do you know where Texas public schools get their funding? 💰🏫 School finance is complicated. In this video, we break down the sources of Texas school funding and the legislature’s role in funding our Texas schools. #FundOurSchools #TxLege #TxEd bit.ly/TXschoolfund...

Ahead of the 89th #txlege, you can familiarize yourself with Capitol.texas.gov, create a login and set alerts for committee hearings or specific bills you want to follow. Look up your elected officials and put their numbers in your phone.

Why can't schools cover lunch for everyone? They have to attend all day. We should feed them all.

I had a typo earlier. TX a CTE (Career and Technology student) student is allotted $6687.60 per year. $526.60 more than a regular student. How many of you could buy all you needed to teach a child surveying, auto mechanics, cosmetology, or Autocad with $526.60? TX needs to fund the schools!

Sharing! Attn Texas‼️ FYI if you don’t think that Texas should include Bible infused reading materials into kids language arts, I highly encourage you to email your representative. This site already adds your rep and sends them the letter. Preliminary vote: 8 yes and 7 no. Final vote on Friday.

In Klein ISD the state allotment for special education is $28.8 million. The actual cost for Klein is $80.3 million. Underfunded over $50 million. Why aren't the lawmakers looking to fix this? Our children deserve to have a good PUBLIC education.

Have you watched our interview with President Biden yet? If so, have you shared it with friends and family? Link here 👉 youtu.be/TJfOAjUleTc?...

It's been about a month since I was bitten by a possum. I learned several things. Possums don't carry rabies (98% of the time). Possums are stubborn and have very short memories. My E.R. doesn't offer rabies shots. I rescued him 3 nights in a row from the dog before he got me. Didn't have a towel.

A great place to keep up with the bills dealing with education that are up to bat this legislative session in Texas. www.moakcasey.com/bill-tracker/

The 89th Texas Legislative Session is coming up! It starts on January 14, 2025, and ends on June 2, 2025. This session is super important for the future of our schools, so it’s good for all of us to stay informed and involved. Get ready and contact your reps to get your voice heard.

In TX the districts are allotted $18,480 per year for a special education student. They deduct $35 per absence including if it is medically prescribed therapy that the district can't provide. Vouchers won't cover enough to cover the cost of a student needing special services in a private school.

In Klein ISD the state allotted $1.2 Million for safety and security mandates. The state has yet to release the funds. The actual cost is $10 million. Many districts are having to start from scratch to meet the mandates while the state plays games to force us into a voucher system.

Is it time for bed yet?

TX school districts are in a difficult position, mandated to implement safety measures without financial support. Schools are facing the challenge of balancing their budgets and keeping students and staff safe, all while the political impasse over school vouchers. Tell your rep to fund the schools.
