Luckily, large industries with a static blue collar workforce have done a good job of treating heat exposure as a life critical discipline like lockout tagout and fall protection. My former employers in O&G/Chemicals allowed us to track and prevent it. The small construction cos are a nightmare tho

Yeah he lasted barely a month as a GS-15. And he'll get paid at least *checks notes* two paychecks..I guess.

Lots of shit going on.
Lonnie LeBlanc was the man that died. A high tech space company not taking the time to get some fucking straps to secure a load and instead letting a guy sit on it is insane shit even by 1990s standards.

A brief search shows that there are about 40 crane-related deaths in the US per year, mostly from dropped objects (www.bls.gov/iif/factshee...). I can't find a number for crane collapses, but they appear to be a once every few months event that makes headlines in the local paper.

The entire business model of The Boring Company is "How can we build tunnels without any safety regulations?"
I often joke that right before you go in Boring Company tunnel, customers are presented with a silver platter with two small cyanide capsules in paper cups, "Just in case."

I worked in safety and training at a crane company. Crane collapses are scary dangerous. They are almost always the result of human error. Something weighed too much, boom angle/length issue, load calculations done wrong or not done at all, or lift planning problems are common reasons.

Elon Musk is very well known for cutting corners, ignoring the safety of his employees, and a multitude of OSHA violations across his businesses.
His businesses are riddled with a culture of poor judgment when it comes to balancing safety and profits.

Agreed. There's no way TSLA can pull off Level 4 automation without LiDAR. Especially at night. Cameras in low light conditions will *never, ever* suffice in those situations.

Yeah I've pretty much come to that same conclusion. She *might* be keeping the company running, but *she* lets Elon do this đ© and covers it up: www.wsj.com/business/elo...

She's a dumpster tier human who does fraud on behalf on musk and also ran his SpaceX intern Breeding Fetish program. It's all been PR from day one, hope that helps

It's easy to spot new Elon Haters because Tesla has been mauling workers in California at above industry rates for a decade now as @lorak.bsky.social @danahull.bsky.social @niedermeyer.online and @linettelopez.bsky.social have been reporting on forever

I posted about the lack of OSHA regs on heat exposure but Crane safety is incredibly highly regulated on a super granular level for a good reason

Just know that the company pays welders, the ones who assemble the stainless steel pressure vessels filled with millions of pounds of methane, about 60% of going rate in Texas

i can defend âour hardware is as disposable and iterative as our software, by designâ as an approach.
people dying because basic regs and standards werenât followed isnât just indefensible, itâs unacceptable

It all stems from the exact same problem, the stories I heard about how contractors and trade workers are vetted is nightmare fuel
