Currently reading “Warbreaker,” “Pay the Piper,” and “Mary.” About to start “Never Whistle At Night” today for a queer horror book club and will be adding a fifth book to my current reads once my other book club decides on one. I may have a problem.

"Best" is subjective, but I think for me it is. It's certainly a powerful one.

Partly my own struggles with sexuality growing up in the south. The idea came shortly after I first learned about conversion therapy in high school and felt the need to portray it as the horrifying practice it is.

The characters are all dehumanized by having their names replaced with numbers. Patient No. 1, Patient No. 2, etc. Patient No. 8 is kept separate from the rest of them because he's "a danger to himself and others" so there's a mystery about Patient 8, who he is, and where he comes from.

It’s a blend of psychological and cosmic horror about gay conversion therapy and religious trauma

Currently making the "mistake" again of reading 3 books at once. "Warbreaker" by Brandon Sanderson, "Mary" by Nat Cassidy, and "Pay the Piper" by George A. Romero.
