Next time you hear someone ask how will the govt pay for <insert new spending on services> just remember right now the richest 10% get $27.5bn in tax breaks on just super, and negative gearing and the capital gains discount on housing www.theguardian.com/business/gro...

Hey Jane Hume this is the very definition of SMEAR #auspol

Dutton's property investments... A reminder, on this property he made $3,675,000. But because you get a 50% discount on capital gains, he only had to pay tax on $1,837,500. That tax discount each year costs around $22bn - of which $18bn goes to the richest 10%

Quick shoutout to @instanterudite.bsky.social (Jo Dyer) for a brilliant job anchoring the new Sunday politics show at @theshot.net.au Such a pleasure/relief to hear not-the-usual-suspects discuss not-the-usual-politics in not-the-usual-corporate-twoparty way. #auspol www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OWA...

This was very good and I liked how they channeled current affairs by carrying on in a sensible fashion despite the barking dog, dodgy internet and general chaos. Back to you, Dyery.

The first episode of The Sunday Shot from @theshot.net.au is now available for viewing on YouTube! Apologies a glitch meant it didn't stream live there this week but it was a great conversation and we look forward to saving you from #insiders again next week! #sundayshot youtu.be/_OWA3a411_k?...

🚨When people are struggling with high household costs, facts matter. Here is the data: the only way for power prices to come down is with more renewables & electrification of households. Govt needs to help people get off expensive gas. #smartsolutions #auspol

“In many developed democracies, politicians accumulate vast post-service wealth by selling access to public policy. Politicians may make policy anticipating future wealth, a kind of anticipatory corruption.” www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

We're never going to get anywhere in this country if the media keep publishing these sorts of headlines. Is what Peter Dutton saying true? If not, that's the story. #auspol

I ask you, is there anything more useless, more irrelevant, more vain and vacuous, more downright utterly otiose than a National Party MP ?

FFS! How dare these arrogant men? Who on earth do they think they are?

Yup. Utterly daft decision. Whoever makes the hiring and firing decisions at the ABC is the one who should be fired. Oh & whichever numbskull it was that axed The Drum. I still get asked about it.

What's funny about Bluesky being like Twitter back in the 2009-2012 era, is that it's just people being able to be people. What killed it was the audience becoming the product for firms that realised the generation of artificial conflict would be advantageous to them. Nothing ever really changes

I’m told Bill Shorten made a cracker valedictory speech in Parliament today. But I’m buggered if I can find any report of it. Canberra press gallery asleep at the wheel ?

Big day for NACC Commissioner Brereton who’ll be in the hot seat from 12:30pm today. There’s prob nothing he can say or do that will restore confidence in the NACC. His response to his failures scream of incompetence & arrogance. Will he at least have the decency to say sorry?

The head of the NACC, retired judge Paul Brereton, is incapable of leading a public service organisation of over 260 people with a very forward facing and very public role He appears either unwilling or unable to accept that he does not have the skill set required for such a vast undertaking #NACC

I learned some stuff about Bluesky I did not know by reading this. Maybe worth passing it on to others so we can all start getting the full benefit of the 🦋.

Rick Morton on the money here, but it goes further. Justin Gleeson was due to be announced as the eminent legal person last Mon 4 Nov. But Brereton pulled the rug on it all terrified of Scott Morrison's reaction. Scott Morrison is the unnamed minister, the 6th person in the Robodebt 6. #NACC
