Trump's political super-power is that he appears to many people as a truth teller. He is, of course, someone who lies all of the time...but the important thing is that he does not APPEAR to be lying because Trump's narcissism is such that he authentically believes whatever he's saying in the moment.

There's a whole "alternative country" genre with a lot of legit good music. Check out Bloodshot Records

The words “Republican,” “right wing,” or “Christian nationalist” aren’t uttered. The “political extremists” aren’t defined.
If you can’t name the enemy I don’t see how you can fight it, or beat it.

100%. it's also why "demanding answers" is a waste of time: there's no such thing as a productive conversation to be had here. offer the least-generous interpretation of what they're doing, over and over, extremely loudly. don't ask them to explain themselves, make them deny your explanation

Question: if there are so many violent criminals who are undocumented, why aIs ICE having to grab kids with cancer (who are actually citizens) just to stay busy?

But to then transfer that logic to an ongoing conflict with analogous parties ... much less OK

And that was OK in a context where everyone already understood the horrific nature of the overall objective.

Yeah, in his case (and he was pretty junior at the time, tbh), it just seemed like he thought the point of courses like his was to analyze strategy and tactics, not the morality of the overall objective.

He had an infectious intellectual excitement about tactics, strategy and grand strategy. But looking back in light of the recent stuff I get the sense that he's just not as interested in the morality of these things - it's mostly about what works and why

Great example. I took a couple of courses with Mearsheimer and he was brilliant, both as an instructor and in his books (the ones about WWII). His recent stances, on current events, have been a huge disappointment.

I read, and was profoundly influenced by, her books when I was in college. I will never understand why eminent scholars like her end up trashing their own reputations at the end of their careers.

My guess is they'd say that "blue" is a word descended from Middle English and therefore emblematic of Anglo-European-American cultural hegemony and hey wait, where are you going?
