Actually laughing out loud at this ridiculous drama. Joyful.

Oh I did not know that. No wonder. The complete tone shifts were so disconcerting.

I wanted to pull through for Tan Jianci but yeah, I think I will be even more dubious about season 2s in the future. One of the best things about cdramas is the self contained, actually complete, 1 season stories.

The only parts I enjoyed were the surprising amounts of sapphic overtones (not even subtle). Haven't managed to finish a drama in a long while. Dropped #KillMeLoveMe and #BrightEyesInTheDark too. On to the next!

So many plot holes/flimsy explanations that trucks could fit through. I dropped it at 18. I lost it at 17 when apparently Du Cheng lost his shit at just the idea that his mentor wasn't perfect. Just a whole season of Du Cheng being a grumpy side kick for no reason.

And season 2 is like, wow he's even more perfect and he can now predict crime before it happens. What. Why. None of the cases were immensely interesting to me. It felt so much like they tried to be a Western police procedural but didn't know how to write a crime drama.

My biggest complaint about season 1 is like, Shen Yi is flawless, genius artist, but also somehow a criminal profiler who always gets it right (?) and is literally just, frustratingly perfect. Du Cheng provided a balance and I love TJC enough to finish it but it was a struggle.

I think it's doing a way better job with the epic heroic job stuff than #YouAreMyHero tho because the fast paced high stakes lasted all of the first 15 minutes with the latter but still managed to bore me with the lack of romance.
comment in response to post
Not that I watch Western shows anymore but it helped me vibe with this one because 8/40 in, there's no romance.

This is my first time watching #HuangJingyu and it's clear that he's a veteran. This is definitely a show with a budget and the type of show that's more popular with the domestic audience. It's very rah rah firefighters are good and heroic but I feel like being a fan of the #911Show has prepared me.

I really don't know if I can recommend it. It's fine, I really liked the chemistry and the leads. But it's also nothing especially special. The first episode had a great scene when they first see each other though; might be worth just watching that.

I do overall feel fairly positively about the things that were done well and the "actors I like" bump is real. It could have been a better story if it was tightened up.

I much prefer a nice 24 episode drama, but don't like it when that means they're trying to shove 40 eps of contrived boring dramatics into that length. It would have been a really bad show/premise for a longer drama, and shoehorning all of it in 24 eps just means the bad parts doesn't break it.

There was just not enough building her up as that sort of villain before we hit attempted murder on the bingo card. The side couples were okay but ultimately, why try to fit all of that and the premise of the reality show into 24 episodes?

The chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥. As expected from XRH, but LYR holding his own. The annoying second ML and FL were in full force though. For being ultimately a wet fart, the 2ML did not have to come across so slimy. And 2FL was so unhinged in actions but I didn't buy that she was actually that unhinged.

OHHH Yes I remember and loved him from LMLMV. Didn't realize he has an active instagram that's followable. I don't even use instagram and I'm tempted to start just to follow. In the meantime, thank you, I will enjoy these lovely cosplays. :D

YEEEES. I got my Sunday last night and I am happy. I want to see the cosplayer you follow now tho.

Just looked into it, and I have enjoyed a lot of stuff by this director too. Awesome!

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts!

I enjoyed Li Yunrui in #LoveLikeTheGalaxy but he didn't make an oversized impression in it. It's hard to not be overshadowed by the immensely talented #WuLei. I am excited to see him star in his own projects after seeing him in Go Back Lover. #Blossom is about to air and I am curious to see reviews.

I really just had to see a Western style vampire cdrama. But then remembered I'm really sick of Western style vampire tropes....

i had to drag myself through UTS. It ended up being... mostly worth it. But loving an actor has not dragged me through most dramas that aren't my cup of tea to begin with. Only so much time, too many dramas

Thanks! I'll throw it on my watch list then since I generally enjoy Lin Yi.

My last two experiences with Shen Yue shows was very much "fish kissing" and it kind of made me feel like I should avoid her dramas. Is the kissing better in Smile Code? Lin Yi has done pretty good kiss scenes before so I wondered how they evened out.

Ohhh I didn't even think of that. Does the sound cut out at any point? Does it have all the music in tact? I gave up trying to watch anything on YouTube because of all the sound and quality issues. But it's so variable from show to show.

No it's on my list! I don't have a Youku subscription, but plan to get one once I've made a dent in the things not on Youku. Glad to hear she was good!

Also I just looked up what else #XiaZhiguang is in and he's Sikong Changfeng I'm #DashingYouth?! Really excited to finish my #BloodOfYouth rewatch so I can watch Dashing now because SkCF is kinda maybe the best character from BoY. And I'm really digging Xia Zhiguang in Spirealm.

The human skin arc was almost painfully obvious in terms of "how do y'all not realize how sus that girl is" but the plot of it still delighted in its twists. Egg arc is definitely creepiest so far tho. Skin arc lost a bunch of the fear factor because the scary skinless lady costume was not great.
