I don’t like Invincible for multiple reasons relating to the comic but the animation is Horrible aside from that one episode with the atom girl and you can tell it was all one animator 😭

I feel the need to clarify that I mean they draw attention certain features not found conventionally attractive and I am not talking about the weirdos making Viktor a caricature

I was so stunned by the perfectly executed curve of ass here that it took me 3 tries to comprehend what was actually happening without getting distracted. Thank you for your service.

Mel is not a real person she is a character written by white people. People always bring their biases with them when analyzing characters but these characters didn’t spring from the ether fully formed, the writers also brought their biases

It was very intentional and there’s not a single Black writer on the team. It feels heavily like the accident that happens when white writers want to depict strong Black characters but their definition of strength is something they shouldn’t be handling when it comes to Black characters

Please provide a texture feel reference here because I’m imagining one of those gel air fresheners that are thick and kind of grainy but still very much gel personally

So many deliberate choices were made with depicting Mel and Ambessa as powerful characters that they stumbled right into the repeated trope of white writers accidentally adding layering to their Black characters that they have no business trying to handle.

The colorism thing pisses me off so badly because no! You can’t say colorism doesn’t exist in your fantasy world when your staff doesn’t have a single Black writer! That is what us normal people call an excuse!

That thread happened because someone DMed me my post where I included these images by the way LMAO

Riot failed in writing Mel because they did not give her the same development as the other characters and made her an accessory to a main male character for far too long. But fans who point out the aspects of that bad writing are not somehow conjuring it out of nowhere.

And for as bad as the writing is, trying to remove all of the bad things from the character isn’t the way to go about remedying it either. Black characters deserve universal storytelling. They should not have to be a monolith of a good or bad character.

It’s weird. It places responsibility onto the fans for the bad writing at Riot and it draws away from the actual bigotry taking place in the fanbase.

Are we meant to look the other way when actual classism makes its way into the arsenal to “defend” the character and scenes with the character are twisted to be something they’re not because it’s somehow bad to point out the richest character in Piltover is in fact the richest character in Piltover.

There is a racism problem in the fanbase but it ends up getting made fun of when the things being called racist are… things that apply to the character. Are fans meant to only discuss the character in the context of alternate universes.

Oh she has improved BIG TIME she covers cases that don’t get a lot of attention anymore and has her own team of researchers and translators for it. There are a few on South Korea in particular that I highly recommend as well as one about a fishing disaster.

I think your best bet without stomaching Twitter would be @hexhomos ! I’ve been linked their meta tag a few times by mutuals, they deeply love Jayce and write quite a bit of meta on Tumblr from what I understand.

Like I understand disliking any character, because people like what they like, but the way some talk about Jayce is like he’s the Antichrist. Full on “he deserves nothing” type nonsense 😭
