Her reelection depends upon the Democratic party apparatus in NYC, and if they are under Cuomo's thumb they can make life hard for her. For example, the elections board told NYC DSA to handle campaign funding a certain way, then sued them when they followed the advice, saying it was illegal.

People are talking about avoiding the protest today at the capitol where a Congressman and other politicians are speaking because they are afraid of what the police and DPS might do.

In the end, the council voted to increase funding because it was "obvious" that the police needed a contract to provide their "necessary" services. I hope that those council members have enough reflection to see that this culture of fear in Austin is what they voted for.
