I’m so angry I can’t even see straight. LGB my ass.

For a long time, I would print these out and highlight the ones I read and try to work through as much as I could. I had a folder of them! I don’t print out anymore but I still rely on this yearly list to point me to books I’ve missed.

31. HELL HOUSE LLC 4 (2023): A return to form, this movie about an evil clown cult (that’s the story right?) is somehow a prequel and sequel and as scary as the first. As usual, it’s found footage all the way down; I expect the two documentarians who open the movie to die in #5. #31HorrorFilms31Days

30. SATAN’S SLAVES (2017): This Indonesian story mixes the typical beats of a haunted house story with a demonic fertility cult and the living dead. The youngest child is adorable and there’s a lot of suspense as he’s put in danger. A third act twist really surprised me. #31HorrorFilms31Days

29. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008): I finally rectified this hole in my horror viewing. A unique vampire tale about social isolation, loneliness, bullying, revenge, and the need to belong. Loved it though I wanted a beat more at the end after the amazing pool scene. #31HorrorFilms31Days

28. UNKNOWN VISITOR (2019): This 52 minute movie has a great hook: filmed entirely through the door camera of a haunted (?) porch. It is unintentionally hilarious. The continuity errors alone (the sandwich!) make this a fun “spot the difference” drinking game. Enjoy! #31HorrorFilms31Days

27. EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE (2005): This demonic possession scenes still get under my skin, thanks to the magic of Jennifer Carpenter. Damn she’s good. The courtroom drama is a solid framing of the story. Another rewatch at my wife’s request; she loves this movie. #31HorrorFilms31Days

26. A GHOST WAITS (2020): Charming indie horror rom-com between a handyman fixing up a house for sale and the ghost haunting it. Wonderful premise, mostly decent acting (varied by character), student film special effects. Cheesy at times but won me over. #31HorrorFilms31Days

25. AS ABOVE, SO BELOW (2014): A rewatch. One of those “people doing dumb shit and filming it” found footage movies of which I’m inexplicably fond. Anything involving illegally exploring catacombs, ruins, caves, abandoned places, etc. falls under the “you asked for it” genre. #31HorrorFilms31Days

24. THE NUN 2 (2023): I remember being meh about The Nun but I super enjoyed this. Some really memorable visuals, like the magazine flipping scene, and a bananas third act that was all melodrama and spectacle. Did it all make sense? Who cares?#31HorrorFilms31Days

23. THE CONFERENCE (2023): An entertaining, satirical Swedish slasher about a corporate “retreat” gone wrong. The mask the killer wears is *chef’s kiss* #31HorrorFilms31Days

22. INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY (2018): I’ve finally seen them all. I liked this prequel, because it was all about Lin Shaye (I mean, Elise). These movies are all about trauma being passed down from parent to child and so on, so seeing Elise’ childhood trauma fit in well. #31HorrorFilms31Days
