In that area, there is nothing for the bees to forage on during winter, so they don’t need to go in and out.
There are facilities that maintain the temp in winter above outdoors, but cold enough to maintain the hive cluster.

They will likely start building comb inside. Not sure where you are located, but you might try reaching out to a local beekeeping club. It should be an easy rescue job.

I’ve been to Iceland many times and found the people to be some of the most caring and friendly people I’ve had the pleasure to meet.

The plastic frame used is a special one, designed to encourage drone cells. Varroa mites like to attack drones, so this method pulls mites away from worker larva.
