I noticed that too. It seems extra weird considering it's the exact opposite mindset he's going into his Play to Find Out series with. I don't quite understand why he's open to approaching some games on their own terms and not others.

The way I see it, self-taught newbie DIY layout is always better than the kind of trad industry standard presentation that Delta Green has going on. Flipping through Delta Green makes my eyes glaze over, but I don't feel that way for the majority of the single creator amateur or indie RPGs I read.

I hope some kind of nonprofit picks it up that maintains a freely accessible digital archive of all existing D&D material (and maybe does print runs of old books if there's interest), but otherwise does nothing with it. Preserve the game's history, but don't feel compelled to continue that history.

THE GAS STATION is one of 8 games you can get for 14.99. Every dollar spent goes to food and shelter for my family!

When I was seven or eight, my mom’s coworker gave me a copy of the AD&D 1e Monster Manual they found at a garage sale. When I was around thirteen, I picked up D&D 4e after seeing it at the store reminded me how much I loved flipping through that 1e MM.

Playing D&D is like playing any other TTRPG, but when I talk about The Hobby I'm rarely talking about playing games--I'm talking about peripheral activities done in addition to playing. Maybe people who have this mentality are also conceptualizing play and hobby as related but distinct categories.

I was recently rereading Gamma World 7th edition, which uses a streamlined version of D&D 4e mechanics. 5e should have just been that.
