BREAKING: Reports that Trump would try to cut NIH's budget by 40% have come true. The request released moments ago would: - Cut $18 BILLION to NIH's $47b budget - Eliminate NIMHD, NCCIH, FIC - Collapse ICs into five 'focus areas' There's also a long screed about NIH's deficiencies.

353 signatories so far on the @aacu.org Call! AMAZING work by their team. Take a look - organized by the presidents' last names (not the institutions or associations). Is your college/university or academic organization there? #academicsky #skystorians #edusky #higher www.aacu.org/newsroom/a-c...

First post here- Hello Bluesky! Quick science query: These 2D classes are from negative stain of a FLAG pulldown (HEK cell eluate). Does this look like a real complex or a common contaminant? Would live to hear from anyone who’s worked on similar prep! #negativestainEM #pulldown #HEKcells

ScienceGuardians, where disgruntled authors complain about PubPeer A new BSky account that promises some big reveals about PubPeer users, but never delivers. Instead, it spews false accusations and conspiracy theories. Read my blog post: scienceintegritydigest.com/2025/04/18/s...

Sources have shared 2 important pieces of information about NIH grant payments (although I am trying to get further confirmation). Hang on... (1) ALL payments to Columbia, Brown, Northwestern, Cornell, Weill-Cornell, Harvard are frozen. 1/3

"The proposal would reduce the more than $47 billion budget of the NIH to $27 billion — a roughly 40 percent cut. It would consolidate NIH’s 27 institutes and centers into just eight."

US students. Looking to apply to graduate school? Had an offer rescinded recently? The University of British Columbia in Canada will re-open the application portal in some departments for US students from April 14-18. Details: www.grad.ubc.ca/us-applicant... #ubc #AcademicSky #PhDSky #ScienceSky

University presidents, the time is now! Unshackle the general counsel's office! File all the lawsuits! Release the faculty upon the op-ed sections! Write to your alumni, parents, and donors! You have nothing to lose but a tiny percentage of your enormous endowments... www.nytimes.com/2025/04/08/u...

Scientists should try to repeat more studies, but not those looking for a link between vaccines with autism - the replication studies were done and found that there is, in fact, no link between vaccines and autism. theconversation.com/scientists-s...

THIRD GRADERS. 8 or 9 years old.

Is this referring to the 'final' game for Porter?

Hands Off Protest in the Boston Common

I have never seen anything like this in NYC. 5th Ave covered from 42nd St well to the 20s. Nobody prepared for this volume. Volunteers are holding the traffic on all the side streets. No police in sight. #handsoff

Great crowd at #HandsOff Boston

Come for the protest and stay for the #DropkickMurphys! Protest rally begins Saturday at 11am. #HandsOffAmerica #HandsOffMassachusetts #HandsOffBoston

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

Several hundred people gathered at the Federal building in Boston to demand that Rumeysa Ozturk and ALL the prisoners being held illegally be released. 1/?

The CDC Has Been Gutted. -the scale of this is beyond stupid and it's execution beyond mean. This is an epically dumb own-goal that will cause far more harm than its paltry savings could ever offset. www.wired.com/story/cdc-gu...

. @scottgottliebmd.bsky.social and Pharma in general were fucking warned. Good luck getting your shit approved now you quiet ass bitches.

“The FDA as we know it is finished.” -Robert Califf The institutional knowledge lost today will likely slow approvals and hinder access. People will die preventable deaths.

Tariffs get all the attention, but ask economists what they're really worried about and many will point to the Trump administration's cuts to federal support for the sciences, including canceling grants and revoking student visas. #EconSky www.nytimes.com/2025/03/31/b...

Finally beginning to see a more overt shift in biotech attitude towards this administration as attacks add up. Peter Mark’s exit is affecting confidence across biotech and investors. Hoping to see more industry scientists publicly fight back like academics have been. endpts.com/biotech-mark...

So we can start planning Obama’s third-term campaign against him, right?

NIH has rescinded its scientific integrity policy. Hard to see this as anything other than clearing the way for shoddy research on things like vaccines. Regardless of the rationale, it's bad news for public health. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

They are cutting cancer research. They are cutting cancer research. They can deny it all they want, but they are cutting cancer research. These are the cuts being made the DoD CDMRP cancer funding mechanism www.fightcancer.org/sites/defaul...

Hope Massachusetts does the same.

1/ No matter how fucked up and illegal you thought the random detention and RENDITION of men who the government claimed were violent gang members was... @isabelaalhadeff.bsky.social and @nlanard.bsky.social are here to show you it's so much worse: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The censorship regime of Jay Bhattacharya

JFC, Fulbright scholar not accused of any crime, no immigration violation, no reason to expect any violence -- just Marco Rubio's whim -- and instead of summoning her first step is no-uniform / no-ID guys in masks and hoodies grabbing her off a public street.

Gee, I wonder what that study on vaccines and autism will show www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/... "Geier and his father, Mark Geier, have published papers claiming vaccines increase the risk of autism, a theory that has been studied for decades and scientifically debunked."

The NCI grant supporting the Columbia comprehensive cancer center was terminated. Tell me how terminating support for cancer research helps the economy. taggs.hhs.gov/Content/Data...

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH

As someone who donated a lot to Democrats over the years: I have cut off funding to all Democrats and the Democratic Party until their leaders show up ready to fight for us. You should, too. Go on @actblueorg.bsky.social and cancel any and all recurring contributions, no matter how small.

New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024. That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved. Show me a better investment than that. www.forbes.com/sites/michae...

So to be clear, instead of just calling your senator and saying vote no on the CR, call them and say vote no on CLOTURE, and we are not too stupid to know the difference

Done and done.

Mahmoud Khalil should be at home with his pregnant wife. Instead, he's been illegally abducted & had his constitutional right to free speech & due process stripped. We're demanding his immediate release and we cannot allow this abuse of power to go unchecked. #FreeMahmoudKhalil

Republicans inherited one of the strongest stock markets in history and in 1 month they've fucked it all up.

This is an enormous mistake being made by our neighbors in NH. State vaccine programs are essential to ensure all children have access to life-saving vaccines. Small practices like my own would be unable to vaccinate kids without the help of the state program due to vaccine costs.
