A nest of American Robins fledged this morning off a strut on our deck support. A red-shouldered hawk arrived in the afternoon and made off with at least two of them. The parents—who were assholes to out bluebird parents the last two weeks—we’re pissed. Hope the bluebirds who fledged before lived.

My only other Oakland A’s connection is a Rickey Henderson Topps rookie card. Worth more than all the rest of my bubblegum pack cards for 12 years combined.

I got to go to an A’s/Twins doubleheader in Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis in 1975. Got to see the first and only pitch runner Herb Washington in one of the games. Found a dollar on the concourse from our third base line seats. Used it to buy an A’s batting helmet. (1975 prices.)

I received it as a gift because my dad (studio photographer) employed a pastor’s wife whose husband worked in Oakland during the early 1970s and they brought that back as a gift. And an A’s hat!
