Gotta maximize the ground casualties since it doesn't have the hypergolic toxicity to help it kill people anymore.

Nuclear is expensive because the regulatory apparatus for it has been run by people literally trying to regulate it into being too expensive to build.

Some dug up a book summary of a book he wrote years ago where a 38 y/o man has a relationship with a 16 y/o girl. He contends it was written as a condemnation of such things, but some people still got The Ick.

It's not a good sole reason to go, but if you're doing almost any ISRU on the moon, collecting what's in the lunar regolith you're processing becomes far easier. You drive off the tritium and Helium-3 anyways while heating it to temps needed for metal/oxygen extraction.

There's a very wide gap from "we're covering our asses to make sure any accidents don't get blamed on NASA" to "they're unable to handle an emergency". And NASA themselves does not list "must absolutely minimize travel time or provide artificial gravity" in the white paper on human health and Mars.

The structures, engines, control systems, and EDL systems are all being actively flown right now. Every other architecture involves hardware that hasn't been to space yet, or even started construction on the ground.

You can't guarantee crew performance either way. You can reduce the adaption period once they've landed, but spending $10 billion on dev costs to reduce a day of adjustment on the Martian surface isn't a great trade.

I really want the left to not reject space, as I want to build a better world for everyone regardless of race, gender, or any of the other myriad things that can be used to divide us. I want the left to help articulate our vision for a better world.

I'm speaking more specifically about a growing anti-space contingent on the left specifically, and the general bureaucratic inaction preventing progress towards decarbonization goals.
