Details of the remarkably opulent Chicago Theater. Built in 1921, it was one of the first of the great "Movie Palaces", and featured a full orchestra pit, organ in the walls, and currently seat 3600 people. 1 of 2 #ChicagoTheater #ChicagoHistory #MovieHistory

Casino (1995) De Niro’s suit game in this is impeccable! I’m always a little surprised by how brutal and gory this film gets in the third act. The pacing is weird but compelling, it almost feels like a summary of a longer story.

Omg

This is a fantastic book! And there’s a two line exchange towards the end which is one of my all time favorite pieces of dialogue

Happy Pride!

Happy Blanche Sweet's, Jeanette MacDonald's, Keye Luke's, and Avon Long's birthdays!

Apur Sansar and The Mehta Boys in the same episode? These and others in our discussion of fatherhood in films.

I manage to articulate some of the joys of Apur Sansar on this week’s Filmi Ladies podcast on Indian cinema’s fathers. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/f... #desiwatch

This is... it's one of the greatest documentaries I've ever seen. A meditation on America told through footage of sports news. To understand us as a culture, you understand us through our pastimes, our media, and our legal system. This gets it all.

On Ralph Bellamy's birthday, as much as I love his screwball doesn't-get-the-girl roles, I feel compelled to recommend BLIND ALLEY (1939), in which his coolheaded psychoanalyst plays Freudian mind games to destroy the gangster holding him hostage.

damn they really cranked these out
