Obviously the context is *very* different, but this is all reminding me quite a bit of the Peter Ellis tikanga case about upholding the mana of the deceased

Thanks for doing that, I've seen some others talking about Media Council complainst too. Hope it makes a difference ❤️

You don't even need that strong a reason imo, most of my recent blocks have been "that reposted person has too many followers not to have brain worms"

The way cats cycle through favourite spots and pick new ones is fascinating

As much as I wish I got to grow up as myself, some experiences certainly sound worth missing
I can only hope things are better for kids today?

I hate looking away but if I'm not careful that anger and helplessness is all I feel all the time and it's just such a downward spiral, it feels necessary to carve out a space that isn't about everything wrong with the world
You doing okay?

Should have waited for a better photo. I might be here a while

It's frustrating seeing this at work as well, where to some extent at least the point *is* about making the weights go up and down
But we also need to build and maintain our skills and connections. I worry so much that collaboration and learning are the parts of our jobs that are actually replaced

That data retention period (at least for financial stuff I think?) is usually like 7 years, right? If so I'm almost there lol

Thanks. I'm hoping it'll be a long time before I'm job hunting again, but I'll keep that in mind. It'd certainly be a different beast for me to navigate now

The last message I got from them made it sound like my account would be unrecoverable after a few weeks
But it is suspicious that they called it "closed", not "deleted"

For [redacted] reasons I recently looked into making a new Facebook account. One requirement they have now is you have to send them a video of your face for them to scan
I trust them less than a scam phone call so that was a deal-breaker for me

I don't remember the process I went through but I sure wouldn't trust them to keep it simple or easy to access

No I hadn't, it's been just over a year now and I came out at work at the start of this year
I got *very* lucky too. Applied to just two places, interviewed at one, got an offer. And it's been a perfect fit too, have been there three years as of yesterday

Yeah that was my only reason to hesitate on deleting. Thankfully it didn't cause me any problems when I was looking for a new job in 2022

I'm glad I dpn't have family I can only contact that way. When I deleted my Facebook account I was unable to contact some overseas friends. And ex-partners

I forgot about LinkedIn haha, never really considered it a social network. No regrets that I deleted that account years ago

I wouldn't touch anything owned by Facebook if I can avoid it, for many reasons. I'm on Mastodon for like, 2 friends who are only on there. What else really is there?

Aww! There's nothing quite like it is there?

I was so clumsy making dinner tonight, *twice* I managed to spill a chopping board onto the floor 😭
Then I tripped over one of the boys' water bowls
Thankfully I held onto the knife when I dropped stuff. No blood here. How's your knee doing now?

Nice! I know nothing about that movie but you've got me listening to the Ladyhawke song now 🥰
It's hard when big things are bad to remember that so many small things are still good eh. I hope you get everything you need out of that referral ❤️

I found some of my favourite books at Hard to Find. Books that have changed my life. It's always been a magic place

Perhaps it is worth asking Police who was sent to this event and had access to sponge rounds then?
It's possible they've relaxed their rules around them since the latest update I've seen in 2023. But I sure hope not
comment in response to

I would have thought so as well. If the rules say only the AOS can use something, that should mean "in their capacity as AOS members" not "even if they're doing non-AOS things today"
I've assumed STG involvement here just because there's been no mention I've seen of any armed offenders

In that case the IPCA eventually found that officer used excessive force but I don't believe they faced any serious consequences and imho the same thing could easily happen again tomorrow. But media plays a big role in our wider established culture of "police can do no wrong"

Reminds me of the news story a while ago of when a 15 year old child stole a tractor and was tasered *while driving it*, which was clearly not in line with Police's taser rules and could have easily killed him
But our media all took the "fun" angle of a low speed chase with a stolen tractor instead

When I made policepolicy.nz to make it easier to find NZ Police's internal rules, I hoped it would lead to more media reports calling them out when they brag about behaviour that breaks those rules
But no... so much of NZ media seems happy to be a mouthpiece for NZ Police regardless of misconduct
comment in response to

Ah, here's a report straight from the Police Media Centre. Also no mention of STG or AOS though
"Police to employ tactical options - including deploying sponge rounds to disperse the crowd"

comment in response to

This story doesn't mention either but I'd assume the STG was involved. If you can't find confirmation in media reports you could ask Police for info using the OIA
(Sorry for weird wording in the quote)
"police had to use sponge rounds to disperse the crowd"

Our cops call them "sponge rounds". Here's their internal policy about their use as of June 2021

They certainly don't have the same emotions or empathetic responses as we do. I wouldn't call them psychopaths, but neither would I want to be smaller than them

Haha this is how Milo exits the bed if he burrows under the duvet with me. I'm always like "dude you can come out the same way you got in!" but no, he has to come out down the side of the bed every time

Oh they're certainly social too! Just in a different way to dogs
Dogs are great but I've never felt like I understand a dog or a dog understands me. I do feel that way with cats
