Borderlands is indeed a shooter with RPG
But in my case I refer to "Shoot-Em-Ups" or Bullet Hell games 2d side scrolling game where you shoot up enemies and avoid bullets, like gradius, touhou or galaga

I'm using GB Studio to make this game, pretty easy to use tool, lets you make actual gameboy and gameboy color games to play on emulators or consoles!
