They’re planning on building a detention center for migrants in the middle of the fetid swamps of Florida. If you think this is something new, the first internment camp they sent me and my family to in 1942 was a barbed wire prison called Rohwer. It was located in the swamps of Arkansas.

Remember, this new normal -- in which gangs of masked armed gunmen are causing chaos in the streets, pulling weapons and assaulting innocent people, and no one can say if they're crooks or cops -- was all sold to Americans as a way to make us feel safer.

Dear Rep/Sen etc Along with all the abuses being perpetrated by ICE generally, I read today about Iris Dayana Monterroso-Lemus who lost her pregnancy due to lack of medical care while in ICE custody. ICE shouldn't be allowed to arrest people if they don't have actual beds for each one ....

Today is a good day to put the crockpot out on the porch to cook so it doesn't heat up the house. Put a light towel over it to keep bugs from trying to get into it at the lid's edge.

"The phrase "The first casualty of war is truth" is often attributed to U.S. Senator Hiram Johnson, who used it in a speech in 1918. However, similar sentiments have been expressed by others, including the ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus, who said, "In war, truth is the first casualty."

I believe the price tag on 12 of those bombs is significantly higher than this post lists. Nonetheless:

If you’re an American should watch the Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown ep on Iran. A deeply humanizing look at a country full of people just like you and me. I watched it after Anthony died and it moved in ways that are hard to relay. I also immediately ran out to try kabob koobideh and tahdig.

Having a bit of a hard time with the concept that if a guy in a police uniform who has a police vehicle shows up I should lock the doors and call 911, but if a guy in a ski mask with an hGH gut appears to be kidnapping my neighbor, I shouldn’t ask who he is if I don’t want federal charges.

We’re announcing new legislation — the No Secret Police Act (SB 627) — to ban local/state/federal law enforcement, w/ some exceptions, from covering their faces when interacting w/ the public & require them to wear identifying info. The secret police behavior we’re seeing destroys trust & must end🧵

Philip Gourevitch of The New Yorker on NYC march: I asked the one high ranking policeman I saw on 5th Ave why there were so few police. He said “We did not expect anything like this. Don’t tell anyone but I’ve only got 44 officers out here — and it’s a great crowd, great event, no incidents.”
