Oddly enough I hit a similar issue... I can do a lot cause I'm comfortable with Python and it's very similar but know little to nothing about shaders and graphics so I've not even dared to try.

People forget that criticism is not always undue criticism, and can lead to the building of something better when you acknowledge and address the shortcomings.
Something can be simultaneously flawed but also be the best option we have at the time.
