This is still happening. The cold never bothered us anyway ❄️ See you tomorrow!

Join the Winter Bike to Work Day organized by the City of Kitchener, on Feb 14th at 7:30am. The ride makes use of protected bike lanes, making it comfortable for those new to winter cycling. The ride starts at Otto St, in front of Centre in the Square and ends at Cafe Pyrus on King St.

1 month later we went up by 219 followers! We are now sitting at almost 600 followers on @bsky.app! Let's see if we can get more than 1600 followers here to compete with our following on Twitter. 😊 #ActiveTransportation #BikeInfrastructure

we're super excited for the #bikesky community to have one of the first video feeds on bluesky! to add a post simply include a video and mention anything to do with bikes in your post or alt text

@truecommunities.bsky.social recently published video from the #HenrySturmTrail during improvements that were in progress back in the August 2023. youtu.be/4hLvI1o9Ilk?... #CyclingInfrastructure #CityOfKitchener #SafeCycling #VisionZero #SustainableSafety #BikePath @regionofwaterloo.bsky.social

Strange how β€œmaybe we could make it safer to bike” is somehow translated into Every trip across the planet must be made by bike by everyone in every situation.

This post from Tom Flood just cracked me up, and once again, he got me thinking. 🧡

One of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS your city could do to become more healthy, sustainable, livable, affordable, equitable, successful β€” stop pretending to β€œbalance” transportation modes, and commit to PRIORITIZING walking/rolling, biking, public transit. HT @dublincycling.bsky.social’s graphic

I wish more local elected officials understood induced demand (and its flip side, traffic evaporation).

Speeding traffic is rated as the greatest antisocial behaviour in local communities. The evidence is that there is 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 π—½π˜‚π—―π—Ήπ—Άπ—° π˜€π˜‚π—½π—½π—Όπ—Ώπ˜ 𝗳𝗼𝗿 π—²π—»π—³π—Όπ—Ώπ—°π—²π—Ίπ—²π—»π˜. Read this 1 page report. bit.ly/4gyzdpk

A lovely Newsround piece with @annaholligan.bsky.social and some Dutch schoolkids telling us why Dutch kids cycle - because they have the infrastructure and because it’s fresh air, energising, non-polluting, good for the environment, liberating, exciting, happy & fun! www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/vi...

One of the lesser-known legacies from Vancouver’s hosting of the 2010 Winter Olympics was significant transportation mode-shift that could usually take decades. We had to shift 30% of car trips DT during the Games, & specifically planned to keep most of that shift post-Olympics. POWERFUL catalyst.

β€œThey moved on to transforming streets & street priorities for urban biking, walkability, placemaking and saw success. They've had success after success but each has built on the last.” Can Toronto, & other Canadian cities, learn from Paris without trying to copy it? www.blogto.com/city/2024/12...

Unfortunately, our Premier is wasting public money to rip up bike paths with no evidence that it will improve congestion.

Cycle lanes can be removed. So can bus lanes. And bus and rail services can be rolled back on. And progress can be slowed even more on rail projects. Be careful who you vote for on Friday.

We will continue to push for safe streets for all people in Ontario and especially for those in the Region of Waterloo. We are disappointed that those leading don't care more about the lives of everyone. #SafeStreets #onpoli #BikeInfrastructure #ActiveTransportation

Doug Ford showing us that he can get things done. Too bad he's focused on ripping up safe municipal infrastructure instead of improving health care, education, and housing.

Saw one more "cyclists should just take the side street" take online and reached my breaking point, had to make this meme 😭😭

Girona has long-term plans to tunnel the elevated train tracks running through the heart of the city, but in the meantime, they are making the most of the existing railway viaduct; activating the area below with a kilometre-long path that forms the spine of their cycling network.

Wow! Another 10 days later we went up 170 followers! We are now a sitting at 370+ followers on @bsky.app! Welcome everyone! Let's make lives of the people of the Region of Waterloo safer and more enjoyable with safe streets and paths everywhere! 😊 #ActiveTransportation #BikeInfrastructure

Bike riding in Amsterdam is a truly Dutch experience, and cycling is the most popular means of getting around. Meanwhile in #Ontario Doug Ford's CON govt is looking to destroy millions of dollars worth of existing bike lanes. @cycletoronto.bsky.social @cyclewr.bsky.social @normsworld.bsky.social

Here’s the plain truth about the bike-lane crisis that Ontario’s right-wing Premier Doug Ford has created. He’s pandering to angry suburban votes that will help him win the upcoming election, knowing that he won’t win many urban TO seats anyway. And he’s counting on vote-splitting to win. Again.

Before and after upgrade of a cycleway in Amsterdam. The cycleway has been upgraded from paving to red asphalt, this makes it much clearer for visually impaired pedestrians. Greenery added between the cycleway and roadway, means cycles are further away from motors and reduces spray during rain

β€œI don't wanna go far for stuff" My eloquent and powerful rebrand of the 15 minute city.

Another day, another million new people have joined Bluesky! 18M users? πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ 18M friends πŸ™‚β€β†•οΈ

That street would be very loud if each of them were driving cars.

World Bollard Association is here! Not a bad way to end my first day on Bluesky!

Hi everyone! I'm a planning professor at the University of Waterloo, researching housing, transportation & how they relate to each other. I'm moving from Twitter & I'll post more here soon. Here are links to some stuff I've written: theconversation.com/profiles/bri... spacing.ca/toronto/auth...

Woah! In the past 10 days we have gained nearly 100 followers on @bsky.app! 😲 Welcome everyone! 😎

πŸ•ŠοΈ Today, we pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by brave individuals who served our #nation. In their memory, we draw inspiration to build a future that stands as a testament to strength, resilience, and #unity. May we never forget their #courage. #RemembranceDay #lestweforget

It would be great to see the Region of Waterloo set up a Netherlands-like network of rural bike paths connecting the small communities to each other and larger communities. This could be an example to the rest of Ontario.

Who is for greenery replacing some street parking? πŸ™‹

If a was car-centric city like Rotterdam can change to be more cycling friendly so can cities in North America. Including our Region of Waterloo. πŸ™‚

I want to get a starter pack going of people who post about news, events, politics in Waterloo Region so we can start to get the local conversation to be a bit more interesting. So far it's tiny. Who should I add?

update: half a million new people in the last day 🀯 welcome, いらっしゃいませ, ν™˜μ˜, bem-vindo! πŸ¦‹πŸŽ‰

welcome to the 100k+ people who have joined Bluesky in the last 12 hours!!! πŸ¦‹ πŸŽ‰

Have you joined a community-led Sunday bicycle ride yet? Check out this video from @truecommunities.bsky.social of what a ride would look like and join others next Sunday at 14h (2pm). This video is from the 6th of August 2023.

We want to see the new transit hub built as much as anyone, but better access to the current station is very welcome!
