Taking the scenic route #Utrecht

City centres work better without cars

Feels like summer out here. Perfect cycling weather. #Utrecht

Utrecht

Once complete, Merwede will be a largely car-free neighborhood home to 10,000 residents on a 60-acres. The neighborhood will include parks, shops, restaurants, childcare, offices, sports facilities, a supermarket, schools, a community center & senior center. 📍 Utrecht 🇳🇱

Dim at the Dom #Utrecht

Another day, another whirlwind of cyclists in central Utrecht

New Swap day 🎉

This could have been parking for three cars #Utrecht

Genuinely cold this morning. Still the whole city is biking.

Here's the work in progress from the summer of 2023. An amazing transformation. youtu.be/zh-zOe6deHg?...

Orinocodreef, Utrecht, the Netherlands. The past one and a half year I have been photographing a lot of infrastructure for the municipality of Utrecht. The coming months I will share some of it here.

‘Utrecht ist ein Paradies für das Fahrrad… Das ist politisch gewollt, sehr angenehm und ein Vorbild.’ (Christoph Koch, journalist @sternde) De #Voorstraat in #Utrecht, gefotografeerd in 1976 en door mij, februari 2025. #stadsmens @zowasutrecht.bsky.social

Modal filters are almost magical: pollution and congestion get filtered out and wellbeing and health amplify #Utrecht

Utrechters opgelet #Neude

Een prachtige manier om naar #Utrecht te fietsen: vrijliggend fietspad bij Groenekan dat precies naar de Dom lijkt te lopen. Beautiful approach of Utrecht: the seperate cyclepath near Groenekan that seems to end at the Dom tower. Used by many people walking, running, cycling, etc.

Wethouder Maatoug gaat met spoed de snelheid verlagen: méér 30 kilometerzones in Utrecht

I can’t help but love the fact that this is what rush hour traffic looks like in the heart of Utrecht in February

Rush hour in the 4th largest city in the Netherlands 🚲 This is one of the busiest junctions in Utrecht, a city with a population of over 350,000. Captured by @filmendefietser.bsky.social

Are there any particular bike urbanism subreddits I need to be aware of?

Één grachtenpand, zo'n vijfentwintig voertuigen ervoor geparkeerd. One house along the Oudegracht, 25 parked verhicles. #Utrecht #bicycles

Nowhere in the world do as many people cycle as in Gemeente Utrecht. More than 100,000 people ride on their (bi)cycle through this city every day. With 400 kilometers of connection, it’s the easiest way to get around. www.youtube.com/watc...

Kunnen en moeten we in Utrecht sneller komen tot meer straten met een maximumsnelheid van 30km/u? Dat bespreekt #raad030 op 13 februari. Volg het debat vanaf 10.00u live via onze website direc.to/imGR 🦉 Meer weten? Kijk hier direc.to/ms59 💡 punt 7

Utrecht might have the biggest one, but other cities have decent bike garages at train stations, too. This example is in Basel 🇨🇭

Even in the dark and cold, cycling in Utrecht (NL) never stops. For my new post I filmed the evening rush hour at a busy intersection—hundreds of cyclists, smooth interactions, and barely a car in sight. Plus, an unexpected moment… Watch the video!

Every day, 64 000 children cycle to school in the Province of Utrecht. To make sure that the routes are safe and accessible, they survey the routes and ask students how they feel on the bike. https://buff.ly/40L8jUZ

Short answer: Yes "Using a car for over 50% of out-of-home activities lowers life satisfaction." doi.org/10.1016/j.tb...

⛔️ Permanently closed ⛔️ This road in Utrecht will become a park, connecting a new residential area with the existing neighborhood on the other side of the road. The park will provide space for nature, water storage, cooling and play areas. Car traffic is guided around the new residential area.

Biking after a week of being sick is so liberating #Utrecht

Bicycle underpasses are an important ingredient of Dutch cycling infrastructure. This underpass in Utrecht, opened in 2020, allows cyclists on a busy main cycling route to cross a two-way street and double bus lane on a safe and convenient way, without causing any delay.

Despite the construction, Amsterdamsestraatweg in Utrecht is still very busy with bike commuters.
