I don't think it's even the jump scares; it's just, like, icky things and psychological terror. (Which, yes, is pretty much everything in the genre. Ha.) If I see it in the morning, I can probably avoid nightmares.

I agree completely. Funny but shouldn't (?) be -- a few months ago, I met someone who'd told their sibling 'We've lost dad.', and the other person said 'How did he get out of the house??'. 'No, I meant he died.'.
