With the budget cuts and personnel changes at the Pentagon that are under way, I don't think he has to worry about being a conqueror.

It turns out that political chaos might not be such a good thing for the economy. Who could have guessed?

Only Kyiv can decide. And maybe it should sign and make its own calculations about how the deal would unfold in reality over several years. I'll leave it at that. But Congress should know this: your country is already dishonoured and the whole world sees it. Get moving or lose your honour too.

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

This is why isolationist nationalism is inherently imperialist - because no country has all the resources it needs. Since an isolationist nationalist regime does not want to rely on allies and trade partners to get the resources it lacks, it feels compelled to try to secure them with conquest.

Remarkable: Trump's own pollster just found that in swing House districts, Dems lead by 5 points and voters want tax policy to prioritize working people, per Politico. Yet GOP is about to brutally slash the safety net and give the rich huge tax cuts! New piece: newrepublic.com/article/1918...

This is not new. This information was available 8 years ago. And, anyone paying attention should know that Trump did not get invited to Moscow in the 1980's because the Kremlin thought he was a brilliant developer. Even the Soviet bureaucrats weren't that incompetent.

“Putin’s fear of Ukrainian democracy is easy enough to understand. Ever since the 2004 Orange Revolution, he has been haunted by the idea that an increasingly democratic Ukraine could serve as a catalyst for the next stage in Russia’s imperial retreat.” www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrain...

Trump's revenge against Rubio. Get him to resign from the Senate for a cabinet post, and then once his seat is filled by someone else, fire him from cabinet, leaving him without any platform to influence anything.

Trump and his White House acolytes are indisputable Kremlin allies. But the US and even the MAGA movement are not on board with that situation. This constrains what Trump can do. He can cut off aid to UA, but actively helping Ru is a step too far.

Most Ukrainians seem to think that this idea is a betrayal by the US. I doubt that Zelenskiy can make such a deal.

Why the British army is so unprepared to send troops to Ukraine. ukdefencejournal.org.uk/?p=56984

There are a whole lot of scientists and engineers who are being fired for random reasons, and a whole lot who haven't been fired but are looking to leave because of censorship. These people can make valuable contributions to other countries.

Hello All, Just put out this piece about the false hopes people are placing in the idea of a "transactional" foreign policy. Basing your security not on strong alliances but on bilateral deal-making and power wielding is normally a failure. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Not just Germany, the civilized world in general. A lot of people are unhappy with a status quo that is not meeting their needs and the traditional partys are not willing to address the fact that the traditional solutions do not meet a lot of voters needs.

Here's video of Steve Bannon doing a Sieg Heil today at CPAC. It is what it is and it's what Bannon intended. Don't let yourself be gaslit.

The guys who have introduced gov't censorship to the US, demanding that other countries introduce censorship to their countries in the name of "free speech".

GAME ON!

These are the most important questions in any election. The person who answers them in a way that resonates with the most voters usually wins. Sometimes by default if the opponent does a very poor job.

As Trump makes concessions to Russia, he is showing weakness on a level unprecedented in modern US history. His position is so weak that it is unlikely to convince anyone. Trump is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. The wolves can tell the difference "The Weak Strongman" snyder.substack.com/p/the-weak-s...

The bad part of this plan is that it will be discussed in Washington. The Biden administration leaked UA's plans to the Kremlin, it is guaranteed that the Trump admin will send these plans directly to the Kremlin. The Kremlin will launch an propaganda campaign against this immediately.

Having to say you didn't commit a crime does not make you look clean. The very fact that you felt you had to say it says that you were walking awfully close to the swamp, at a minimum.

Two Ukrainian oppositional leaders: Petro Poroshenko and Yulia Tymoshenko (both hate Zelensky and hate each other) have publicly supported Zelensky, said his term prolongation is legit until the end of the war, and said elections are impossible now. Listen to Ukrainian opposition.

To be fair though, when Putin put pressure on Yanukovych, Yanukovych folded, provoking the Maidan. Ukrainians willingness to resist is facilitated by having a leader who appropriately represents them. Their ability to resist depends on having such a leader.

Yes, but let's be clear. Tech bros aren't tech people. They're niche venture capitalists. Their entire grift... er, business model... is to promise that tech will solve everything while they pump their next IPO or sale to a larger firm.

When American's actually start doing this, the snowball effect will make a financial crisis inevitable. The alternative to foreign currency accounts is gold or other hard assets, but probably not real estate.

At this stage no one would be surprised if Donald pasted the original Russian text into his tweets.

This. Most dictators appear strong, not because they are, but because they have eliminated everyone who has any strength to challenge them.

Sidekick in Chief.
