Way too long to write here :) I've lived a couple of lives that have led me to become a CTO and a farmer on a quinta. I'm here for the tech and science community and for kind people with interesting minds. Resist fascism!

The president of Ukraine is not important enough to be on the table where the US and Russia will declare Ukraine’s surrender. Starlink will be deactivated and Ukraine will give up its natural resources. Really demonstrates that the US definitely has no friends, only interests.

Scaring people into quitting didn’t work, so now it’s a new game. X isn’t for gov’t business, and not replying to an email isn’t a legal resignation. We could’ve had housing help, tax breaks for workers, and better healthcare. Instead, we’re stuck with this.

Ope.

Seen this happen more than once already

CPAC concludes with the count of Nazi salutes on stage at 3.

Three months ago I asked you all for suggestions about a web platform for scrollytelling, and received a host of very good suggestions. We ended up going with Shorthand.com, which we found the fastest and easiest for non-designers to use. I've posted this before, but here's the website we built.

AI won't read your post about how AI gets basic things wrong and is largely useless, but your friend who get basic things wrong and is largely useless will

Any talk you hear from the current administration about making the US more competitive in science and technology is utter bullshit. What they are doing is sabotaging our country for years if not decades to come.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

well would you look at that

A big part of why we're in this mess is that Democrats are weak and hapless. They aren't willing to fight for -- or even uphold -- the values they say they believe in. The other reason is that most people are dumb as shit and submerged in constant algorithmic propaganda

it's been 0 (zero) days since I had to waste to bunch of time because a PR was started off main despite begging people to not do it in the PR template JUST GIVE US A CHECKMARK TO FORBID THIS GITHUB

Throwing a sieg heil during a speech is now a required shibboleth for maga figures

So let's get this straight: The U.S. and Elon are now extorting Ukraine and threatening to turn off their Starlink Internet access unless they give their critical rare earth minerals to the United States? Staggering levels of corruption.

One of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world just lost $1.4 billion (with a B) to a hack. This is 5x as much as the previous largest exchange hack in history.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

Here's video of Steve Bannon doing a Sieg Heil today at CPAC. It is what it is and it's what Bannon intended. Don't let yourself be gaslit.

#Git mini tip: Use `-U<n>`, where `<n>` is a number, to show n extra lines of context before and after diff chunks, instead of the default 3. I sometimes use `-U10` to bump it up to 10 lines to get a better sense of what exactly changed. This option works with `git diff`, `git log`, `git show`.

wearing sunglasses inside and following an event where he at times had a hard time speaking coherently, Elon Musk walks off the CPAC stage waving around a chain saw. this is the guy currently running our government. Congrats, America!

Further part detection explorations, with decent results! :D left: input image center: hand-annotated right: detection results

“This, to me, is just part and parcel of the amateur-hour nature of what DOGE is doing,” he told The Intercept. “They’re going to destroy more than they help. It’s absolutely counterproductive.” theintercept.com/2025/02/20/d...

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

The degree to which X has become a propaganda cesspool is frightening. In any Ukraine-related thread, the fraction of hardcore pro-Russia accounts is what, 90%? 95%? And the large majority aren't even actual people.

This was posted by the King Family. They know a lot about nonviolent resistance. Keep sharing.

Remarkable thread offering guidance to current and prospective NSF grantees about how to navigate the times ahead — from an NSF program officer who was fired in yesterday's DOGE purge (!)

This is an important feature of this type of regime that people don't take seriously enough: they need an Other to persecute. The definition of the Other will expand. One day you may be it. Here's an easy one: if you're a naturalized citizen from the wrong country, you'll lose your citizenship.

There are moments in these deportation fights when I can just FEEL how pissed off they are that I’m Puerto Rican 😂 they want to threaten me with it so bad 😂

I appreciate everyone’s messages of support, I’m trying to get through all my mentions but as you can imagine, it’s been a bit of a busy day :) Remember - peaceful civil disobedience, and no kings, no tyrants. Not ever.

Yesterday I talked with @cleptric and a few others at Sentry about ugly code and Flickr's Flamework. It is one of my inspirations to this very day. I decided to write about it and why it is such a fascinating Rorschach Test for developers. lucumr.pocoo.org/2025/2/20/ug...

Saying "democracy is good, actually" was an overly controversial take for X, judging from the replies and QTs

Just submitted a question about how to protect our scientists, government funding, and their research from the catastrophic effects of the WH and DOGE to @georgewhitesides.bsky.social for his virtual town hall tomorrow. Our national leadership in science is at stake. Our scientists need our help.

🗣️ @aoc.bsky.social out fighting for the people & federal workers: “Every day our job is to wake up and say ‘what can I do today?’ — There is no act too small. Every action matters.” 🇺🇸

I see amazing bravery, generosity, and leadership from folks illegally fired NIH and NSF jobs. Then we have toadies doing what Jeremy highlights. Yes. Sex is a biological variable. Gene expression, and endocrine environment, and reproductive physiology, and fuck why do I even have to type this?

Just a quick highlight reel of this call 🧵

We’re not even in that war, yet we still managed to lose it. Good job, Americans. 😒

Universities and research labs in the free world need to step up their hiring game. Big opportunity to snap up top talent right now.

America aligning itself with Russia and China and threatening its former democratic allies is quite a sight to see. America is doing a 180° pivot and turning against the ideals it stood for since the 1940s.

Congrats, America. We're now on Putin's side.

Trump wants Ukraine to "reimburse" the US to the tune of half a trillion $ (to note, the US didn't spend anywhere this much on Ukraine, most of the help came in the form of inventory slated for replacement, basically free). Other countries should take note. They'll soon become blackmail targets too

Liberal democracy won't stay alive very long if it doesn't start co-opting technology and business, rather than alienating them. They're the two most important vectors of power today. They are actually synergistic -- the rule of law is vital for business. Public education is vital for tech.

Let's see how the intrepid Elon inspired team at DOGE - the folks who are currently examining your tax records - are doing! Today they put up their their idea of "open data" which they call a "Wall of Receipts". And look here - two cancelled DEIA contracts for $9,999,999. Wow, they saved $20M! 1/

THIS IS HUGE! For the FIRST time in history, scientists at Sanaria and Seattle Children's Research Institute's Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) have developed a GROUNDBREAKING malaria vaccine (PfSPZ-LARC2) designed to provide >90% protection with just ONE dose. 🧪🧵⬇️
