To all men who complain about sharing your “hard earned money” with your spouse after divorce: I am only able to do the job I do and have a home because of the efforts of my wife. Homemaking IS a job! You benefitted from their support, pay them.

Today, our affiliate, @neunion.bsky.social , begins an indicative ballot of teacher members in state funded schools on pay and funding. 1️⃣ Share this post. 2️⃣ Encourage NEU members you know to vote. 3️⃣ Join the NEU picket lines already on our map. #FundFairPay #SaveOurSchools #StrikeMap

Do you have a story about the #EHCP process? The BBC is making a current affairs documentary about the experience of children with SEND and their families. They want to speak to families who’ve been through the EHCP process. Please contact [email protected]

I find it hard to listen Rachel de Souza’s opinions about SEND having spoken to parents of SEND children who have attended the schools of the trust she founded. I suggest looking at the trust’s exclusion rates for SEND pupils when she was in charge

I think something we hear in teacher training a lot needs to be heard by all, especially Americans at the moment: “If you ignore it, you condone it.” This means if a kid is being shitty and you don’t punish them, you are telling them it’s OK to behave like that.

If you like expanded universe type stuff, Aliens: bug hunt is good all the way through. Especially loving a story from the xenomorph pov “dangerous prey” by Scott Sigler.

The U.S. government has put up a submission form for reporting schools who teach kids about “DEI.” It accepts file uploads. Internet, you know what to do enddei.ed.gov

The problem with legislation by itself is that it is ineffective. People still need to stand up. E.g. management now will not admit that workload is too high. They haven’t reduced the workload, just stopped admitting it’s too much.

I’ve not met a teacher with a reasonable workload or an SLT member who’ll admit workload is unreasonable. If teacher workload is reasonable, why aren’t there enough of them?

I think this is right. Looking at the numbers and timescale, I will not be able to do it.

In the #alien franchise, the willingness of some characters to screw someone over for a goddamn %age used to be unbelievable for me. Now I look around and it is all too believable.

In my experience leaders in schools are mostly white, male, cis, heterosexual, non-disabled, neurotypical, with low adverse childhood experiences and a good support network. If your SLT does not have people outside of these categories, can you truly understand your staff, families and children?

When I was a new teacher I worked evenings, weekends and holidays. Then I had a nervous breakdown because I still couldn’t do it all. Now I work 39 hours a week. That’s 1521 hours a year, way more than my contracted 1265. Why do management still complain that more needs to be done?

Actually saw an FSP (family support practitioner )call out a parent for trying to excuse a CYP’s (Child or Young Person) behaviour by crying out “unmet need! He’s got ADHD!” It was a beautiful moment, but too rare. No educational psychologist I have met is willing to call out parents.

Only people who do no actual work come up with ‘empty desk’ policies. If you want my desk to be clear at the end of the day, you have to accept that you are at some point paying me to tidy my desk. Is that an efficient use of my time?

I look at what is going on in the US and ask myself “when will it be too much? What will the opposition say ‘that’s too far!’ and revolt?”. I need to know so I can work out the same for the UK.

And remember: strikes and unions ARE the compromise. The alternative is bloody revolution.

Is it standard procedure in management training to specifically exclude anyone who shows any consideration of the current workload of staff?

Is the keyboard solo from “life during wartime” in stop making sense by talking heads the best one ever? I say yes

Someone please explain as I have a communication disorder: “I slept like a baby” means “I woke every two hours, screaming and covered in shit!” right?!

When I call you out for ableism, do not call me aggressive. Ableism is aggression, you started it. You expecting my quiet acquiescence shows how privileged you are.

If you’re struggling to get staff to do what you want, have you tried wanting things that are reasonable and that are their job?

I seemingly see an endless stream of finger pointing about schools, teachers and councils failing SEN children. Can we stop pointing at each other and blame the lack of funding and support from higher up, please? That’s the real problem.

My autistic teenaged daughter has finally started learning to use the toilet!

If I had a workload that was manageable due to schools having enough funding, I’d actually be happy with my pay. I could work 60-80 hours a week and still get berated for not doing everything. This is why I am voting to strike #nasuwt #neu

Please don’t judge teachers who strike for better conditions. I have seen a lot of colleagues quit teaching to find better conditions in other careers. That’s the alternative, less teachers. Strikes>no teachers. #NASUWT #NEU

I genuinely don’t understand the attitude behind going to work/school when you’re ill. All arguments I’ve heard are really specious “no work = no money” arguments.

How to deal with stress AuDHD edition: put yourself in sensory overload for long enough that you forget what you were worrying about!

The management have discovered a magical new time in which the things I prove I don’t have time to do can get done. It’s called “findthe” as in “findthe time”. It’s their solution to everything!

Read it slowly and understand it. 😳🥺 Repost 👇🏾 👇🏾

I work in a school that ticks every box on their list. The issue is simply there is not enough time or staff. I can train staff, but when? My predecessor SENCo had 25 TAs, I have 6.

The only way to avoid becoming disabled is to die before it happens. Why then is our entire society built around believing that people who can’t work are faking it and need to be bullied into stopping being disabled?

I know too many people who argue that immigrants should just“come here legally and claim asylum”. There are no legal routes!

What is the obsession with getting people into work? If we could look at all the societal cost of checking people can work, forcing them to work and the health care costs when they can’t, I would be unsurprised if it wasn’t cheaper to just pay them a living wage without working.

Arguments my students present for the British Imperial units get more laughable every year. This year I teach pupils whose grandparents were born after metrication started. Precedence is no argument either as imperial was from 1826 to 1965. Metric has been around since the 1790s!

If you accuse someone of “doing it for attention” could you answer me this: even if they were, what’s so bad about wanting attention? We all need attention!

#elitedangerous. Have just bought and fully tricked out a type 10 defender. More fun than an anaconda, not sorry.

Just a reminder: your intentions mean nothing when it comes to discrimination. If you neglected to take into account the needs of anyone who might want to access what you’re promoting, you excluded them whether you meant to or not. Neglect is abuse.
