America will never be seen as a reliable partner again if we can just flip governments ever 4 years and start economic wars. Call your reps. Now. And three times a day. Minimum.

It certainly is easier to say for the rich, yes. But I guess the thought is nothing is learned until those responsible suffer. That supposes they are capable of introspection. Or perhaps we just hope they become "anti-incumbent voters". If we can vote then ... weeeee!

It's the usual billionaire strategy. Buy the dip. Except it's going to be a big dip this time. Like Elon said - expect pain.

Don't sell stock. What you sell is what they can buy. They WANT to firewall the country.

These expectations that bombastic language changes perspective doesn't resonate with me. Nevertheless Clinton did try a go at UHC. I remember the ads. Then we got punished with 12 years of republican governance ( and Newt ). Imagine what the world would be if Gore was elected.

Certainly they did that. I find slogans like "defund the police" to be heavy handed, because it doesn't get the message across to what is a very moderate electorate. It makes everyone else have to explain from the back foot about trying to transition money to more liberal approaches to society.

Presuming we get to write those books or that there will be a society capable of living in whatever conditions climate change puts us in.

😞 indeed

Well, I don't think they had a lot of time ( thanks Biden ), but on top of that the internet screech was at an all time high. Harris' loss was 3 decades in the making. The country had a long time to do the better thing and opted not to so many times.

I'm a liberal! Actually a progressive. The breadth of the Democratic tent is much wider than one would imagine.

Voting is a meaningful way to obstruct fascism. If you can't do the basic thing don't expect people to do the hard thing within two weeks.
comment in response to post
Yea, that seems about right. They've been telling people to opt out of voting for two decades so the only way Democrats scored wins was from picking up the middle.

I'm definitely not proposing such a thing. Just calling out rhetoric from others that has no real plan.
comment in response to post
Uhh. Yea, I don't think you'd get a good result from that. Trump would immediately intervene possibly barring Democrats from entering the chamber.

I live in a small town in Maine. I can usually tell who the MAGA folks are and who the dupes are. I don't think the dupes will come for others. They'll probably watch in silent horror. Germany had lots of those folks left over. Can we achieve the same result without death? I don't know.

Well this certainly makes the final day of January more tolerable. ( /s )

Bottom up, local first.

I'm sure they could put some spanners in the confirmation hearings, but they haven't exactly been silent there either. I think there's lots of people who don't think it is as bad as we do, yet. And unfortunately there is no way we can pass an impeachment vote.

The popular phrase is 1/3 of people would kill another 1/3, while 1/3 watches. In that situation it is not really the entire population of conservatives that would partake in the murder of others. A gun won't stop the military, but it might buy you some time, certainly.

Ok, I do like the idea of showing up and making a scene.

Genuinely curious on your thoughts. I imagine most of America is watching their favorite show and it's just us miserable assholes freaking out on the internet, because we decided to be aware.

What is it that Dems should be doing this very moment?

What does 'taking the gloves off' mean in this context?
comment in response to post
Maybe. What do you propose to do about that? Kill them?
comment in response to post
Biden failed. Voters also failed. Certain groups also pushed apathy. "Both sides are the same". Well, do they look the same now?
comment in response to post
My problem with this is that the people we disagree with will still be living among us. What do you propose we do about that?
comment in response to post
You're correct - they have voted for some of them. There are potential quislings like Fetterman. There is also still a concept of political capitol. Many senators still think there is a path through this. They likely won't vote for the most dangerous nominees ( RFK & Tulsi ). Hegseth 100% no.

I do wonder how they figure they would pay people when the government isn't even funded past March 15th.
comment in response to post
I agree generally, but what does this mean in context of questions during cabinet hearings? Some of those are valid "yes or no". Certainly others can be a trap and both sides can be frustrated by what they see as non-answers.

That whole thing with Obama and SCOTUS? It affirmed the federal government’s ability to influence healthcare policy through taxation. "Moderate" Dems HAVE been working towards it. Everyone just thinks it happens immediately.
comment in response to post
I keep seeing people say "Dems ( the party ) won't make that happen" when they've tried and voters keep punishing us with conservative governments. I don't think there's a country that didn't take decades to implement UHC. What makes people think we will overnight? Apathy is the killer.

Behaves like a tech stock, but without much tech left to be explored. The only hope is blowing up regulations to allow his self driving cars to crash with impunity.

That's saying something if Germany thinks Putin is much less of a threat than Trump ( and they're right ).
comment in response to post
I don't think anyone can stop it, but hopefully the Dems make a stink about it once it gets a little momentum.

Yea, naw dog. Petro sent his plane, because he didn't want to accept planes with people chained up. He wants to ensure their dignity. Columbia was already accepting migrants before this. Trump just made a big scene because he wants to be cruel and Columbia doesn't.
