Yeah… but IT IS allowing another bad thing to happen. Because that’s what the world does. Samantha Power wrote a whole book on this 20 years ago (just focusing on the American policy dimensions of it). And there haven’t really a lot of cases of follow through on the concept of R2P.

Its also a poor comparison point the misperception that America was ever likely to do anything in either case.

A better comparison would be the Central and Eastern European states that engaged in ethnically cleansing themselves of longstanding German populations following WWII. BUT… they didn’t typically murder children or bomb hospitals to achieve that goal (I feel this distinction is important).

In general (for better & worse) they prioritize managing the situation and getting the system flowing again over broadcasting any details. I can imagine a system where we had more of the green-vest info people at more locations to filter info out to people and answer questions. That’d be cool.

I would also argue that bus dispatch, rail control, Security control (3 different clusters of controllers/dispatchers) are all understaffed for the demands of the system. This also complicates information flow about emergency changes in service getting out to the ridership.

“spiraling. A teenager today, an American teenager, has less testosterone than a 68-year-old man.” Is probably due to that 68 year old man having enough disposable income to shell out for HRT.

*this one is fun, because frequently the cops don’t even let us know the details and it’s just basically “the cops said avoid this area” or “there are a bunch of cops in this area and we can’t get through. No idea why.”

I get what you’re saying. In the apps, there’s plenty of room for better communication about what kind of incident is causing the delay. Like “due to a fire,” “due to police activity*” or “due to a medical emergency.”
comment in response to post
What’s wilder is how much doesn’t get communicated laterally, even within Trimet. But… there are three main reasons for delays: • Traffic • Heavy ridership at some point in the route (as for BOTH bus and rail, time boarding and deboarding passengers eats the most time along the route) • Incidents

I’ll add that the problems that I see in the transit system network are going to take some fairly massive infrastructure investment to fix - for example: maybe we shouldn’t have every single light rail line travel across the same 114 year old privately owned bridge made of steel, concrete, and wood.

As an operator, I don’t entirely buy the argument - basically, there are a ton of ways they’d reduce service before cutting out 51 whole lines… that just seems unlikely to be their immediate response to budget shortfalls - but am in favor of the mild tax hike, regardless. It’s just not a bad idea.

I think about this every day. It’s pretty wild.

Nun ja, die Präsidentschaft hat … die Mehrheit der einfachen Mitglieder beider großen Parteien unterstützt immer noch die Ukraine.

It’d be interesting to see this logic expanded to Ukraine, or ANYWHERE, really.

Mind if I add this number to any national security chats I accidentally end up in?

It probably depends on how the stocks he bought in the market dip are doing.

Oh yeah… our mass market meat production practices are abhorrent. There’s better practice production all over the place, but it’s much more expensive fare. In large part this is due to having such a large population (3rd largest on earth) with high consumption demand for meat and dairy products.

If it drops to under $1. I will buy. But only because it’s funny.

I think we all at least want to see Booker break Strom Thurmond’s record.

Utterly wild that anyone would use ivermectin in a manner even outside of how you use it in a veterinary context. I’ve dewormed some livestock… but I ain’t never kept feeding them Ivomec for years. That’s very odd.
