but yeah insane that I can add a language to my Google account as "this is a language I speak" and YouTube still insists upon showing me translated titles

I'm still so fucking mad about community captions. they had a great system and removed it for no good reason!

I have nerdy criticisms of RCV but man it's just nice that candidates who mostly agree with each other get to be friendly instead of knifing each othrr

"acknowledged the existence of the assessment but disagree with it" Me to my girlfriend telling me I spend way too much time on the couch drinking during college football season.

He was doing selfie videos of blocked bike lanes in his district 3 years ago even though it was a city issue. I knew he was a talent back then. Hope he can pull it off.

at 30F you probably want to add a sweater to your layering

at 110F relative humidity above 40-50% becomes "you literally cannot survive outside for sustained periods because sweat no longer works to cool your body"
comment in response to post
wtf are you talking about 20F is like "oh hey it's pretty cold out" and 110F is "I am going to die the instant I step outside"

torn between thinking that would be absolutely terrifying if it were a bike and thinking that would be fun as shit if it were a bike

part of this is probably true? tho for puddles I feel like the air temperature needs to be a little below freezing to really see it what I mostly mean though is if I were outside on a warm winter day I would probably struggle to tell you if it was -1C or +1C without checking a thermometer

maybe if you said like between 54 and 56 degrees but 66 and 68 people would absolutely notice there are whole ass tribes over whether the AC should be 69F or 70F

idk it just doesn't seem that useful? 0C isn't actually that cold, experientially

think an underdiscussed turning point is Warren choosing not to run in 2016. I think she might have had a better chance of winning the primary than Bernie and she probably wins the general

A modest proposal to give DC New York’s statehood until NY can be trusted again (never)

start really loudly pushing a "no draft for iran" bill when people start telling you that you can't do that or such a bill is pointless, just keep asking them why they support drafting people to fight iran

should have just impeached Clinton after the Lewinski scandal and let Gore take over are we really gonna need a constitutional amendment just to say "elected representatives should not be sex pests"

my instinct, having not done that much research on it, is that job creation induces demand for housing much more than housing creation

a great fucking system we've been left with where actually the president gets to be a dictator so long as he has 34 votes in the senate
comment in response to post
i think this used to be true but to be honest i think an increasing amount of american voters (and probably pundits and politicians) are pro-israel because it makes liberals angry, even if they won't admit it to themselves

i am slowly becoming less averse to the notion that this country might not be salvageable without a second civil war
comment in response to post
yeah the fundamental problem is I'm not sure there's any actual "good ending" for the country in the foreseeable future that doesn't involve things going so shit in the next few years that dems somehow manage to get amendment size majorities (insanely improbable)
comment in response to post
my understanding (IANAL!) is that courts have decided determining War Powers Resolution violations isn't actually their job, so I guess we're back to "anything is legal for the president as long as they have 34 votes in the senate and no shame"

really burying the lede on the funniest story here which is that for every transgender perpetrator there were *12* republican politicians
