We, as a country, have been headed this way for a very long time. But it accelerated when McConnell ignored the constitution, made up his own rules and denied Obama a vote on his SCOTUS nominee, Garland. Democrats did nothing to punish him or Republicans for that. Lesson learned by Republicans.

One of the honors of my life was greeting President Carter when his cousin’s funeral was at our church in Georgia. Our minister asked me to greet him and escort him to the area reserved for the family to gather before the service. Purely coincidentally, my last name and his cousin’s were the same.
