I was a Marvel kid but in 1975 CAPTAIN CANUCK grabbed my attention and quarters - for George Freeman’s fluid, unique line and the promise of a new Canada-centric universe of superheroics. Our family would travel to Calgary the same summer. My appreciation for Canada has been fixed ever since.

Today is the birthday of Ub Iwerks (March 24, 1901-July 7, 1971). In addition to cocreating Mickey Mouse & Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and his other achievements in early animation, he was the initial artist on the Mickey Mouse newspaper comic strip.
