Agree about voters but issue polling is notoriously dodgy (voters will support contradictory policies, etc) I think the bottom line is voters heard Trump's extreme right wing pitch, said "i prefer that", and voted for him
comment in response to post
Disagree on all of those points, but more importantly there's no evidence that nonvoters were all dems/progressive. However there's ample evidence that lots of indies/2020 Biden voters went to Trump
comment in response to post
Yes, voters cared most about the economy and immigration--they hated the Biden admin's policies (or perceived policies) so much that they voted for Trump! Polling supports this too, but the election results speak even louder

True, but trying to persuade Collins, tillis et al was the only possible strategy. Better to try that if the only downside is irritating some fraction of the activist Dem base

The only hope for sinking a nominee was to peel off 4 R senators, and all Ds voting No on everyone would've just galvanized Republicans

Voters pretty clearly rejected leftward momentum in November
comment in response to post
They did and they forced cloture on nearly every vote but it doesn't matter because Republicans hold th Senate. There's no enabling going on. Republicans hold all of the power as long as the hold both Houses

Ummmm no

At least he had the decency to die

Republicans control both houses of congress

Democrats can't do anything until they have a majority, and they can't get a majority by losing elections
comment in response to post
The SAVE act is terrible and it will die in the Senate. Dems with conservative electorates can appeal to their voters w/out having any real impact. No Democratic votes mattered for confirmations. Bills and confirmations will fail only if Republicans defect.

Actions that protect vulnerable Dems while having no negative outcomes are good

They can't block anything because Republicans hold majorities in both houses
comment in response to post
They keep getting their way because they hold a majority and no Dem votes are going to change that. I don't know how else to explain this

You want Leader Jeffries to put on a dog-and-pony show of symbolic votes and procedural maneuvers just so you can feel good.
comment in response to post
leadership allows reps in conservative districts to make symbolic votes when the outcome isn't in question. It has always worked that way bc people like Golden need to get reelected
comment in response to post
He would because he didn't need any Dem votes to get confirmed
comment in response to post
SAVE act would have passed without Dem votes because every R voted for it. That's my point. Their votes made no difference and the bill in dead in the Senate anyway

We must free Palestine at all costs, even if that requires an endless series of racist tirades that you were going to make anyway

He's not allowed to have a religion?
comment in response to post
No Democrat has cast a deciding vote for anything in this Congress so why would he whip votes for no reason
comment in response to post
This is very clever and not racist at all

I can't believe this Black man isn't doing exactly what I want! He's just like that other Black man who didn't do what i wanted!

Yes, the House minority leader should use his vast powers to force the resignation of a sitting US Senator
comment in response to post
He's spent over 3 decades in congress and has close to zero legislative accomplishments so maybe he should use that movement to actually do something
comment in response to post
What has Bernie done, other than self-promotion?
comment in response to post
Yeah, actually it is the definition of antisemitic to suggest with zero evidence that a Jewish member of congress--Jamie Raskin of all people--is a fraud who hates other religions and races and he's a puppet of some sinister international Jewish conspiracy

Yes. There's a place for strategic messaging, but Shor is always way too cavalier (almost eager) about throwing principles and vulnerable people under the bus Also he seemed like a total douchebag in that NYT story

We must protect these high-paying drive-thru jobs from the scourge of automation.

Subdivision helps in a fridge. Too much wide open space results in clutter/jumbling, with smaller items getting lost behind large ones

Material politics doesn't count when Biden does it because it fails to address the most material of all politics: vibes

Well, not by the Dem base, but she wasn't particularly popular there either, and radioactive outside of that

Fair point, but his principle audience is other congressional dems, not the public. Pelosi, despite being widely hated, was an incredibly effective leader

I should be specific: does everything need to be a scripted tv show which would require acting lessons? His job isn't to perform for viewers, it's to lead his caucus, and he's been very effective at it

Does everything need to be a TV show?
comment in response to post
Yes, the math and all, but have you considered that Trump might be a soaring eagle that makes men swoon

I think Musk sold Trump a self-driving autocracy and it's going to perform about as well as the other self-driving bullshit Musk has sold

Wildly stupid miscalculation for Newsom, presumably made during brief Dec-Jan window when some dumb people sensed collaboration was the path forward for Dems. Reeks of opportunism and weakness, morally repellant.
