Social science has been my lifeline not bc it's a perfect endeavor (actually I regularly critique its limitations) but bc applied folks need a body of evidence to work from. It's essentially a third job I spend reading. Now with every study I think "is this disqualified from federal funding?"

Put differently, my life's work has been primarily to help other people discover or recognize the truth, to distinguish it from lies or misconceptions. That's what education does. It shouldn't have to be a partisan issue, but now it is.

Just as by giving away all my money, I won't reduce inequality in the US. Inequality is a systemic problem, requiring systemic solutions.
