Kristi Noem told attendees at a CPAC dinner Friday that Trump directed her to launch a taxpayer-funded ad campaign and demanded she thank him in the ads. No other outlet bothered to write about this, despite the admin blowing up to $200M on these ads www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

That he feels he can do this without incurring the wrath of other cops is very telling. You wonder why it’s only been a handful of cops who’ve spoken out about J6, when many others were also beaten, etc…but have kept quiet.

Friedrich Merz, Germany's new chancellor: "The interference in the German elections by Elon Musk and Trump's Washington was no less radical and outrageous than that of Moscow." #GermanElections #CDU

Trump sees Merz winning as a great day for Trump & America. Merz has called Trump's embrace of Putin "shocking" just said the top priority of his government would be that Europe has the strategic capacity to defend Europe without Anerica.

80% of German VOTERS went for parties that promised to have nothing to do with the AFD... MEDIA: Huge win for AFD!

A clip showing Musk seemingly forgetting about his 4 y/o son while waking off the stage at CPAC is making rounds

Stephen Fry, "I'm deeply worried about the darkening shadow that's going over the world, the shadow of fascism" Laura Kuenssberg, "You would use that word?" Stephen Fry, "Absolutely. It's a cult of power. And power only speaks to power"

This whole thing is fascinating, but this bit in particular is new to me, and makes sense...

Now the German election is over, the authorities need to take a look at Musk, TwitterX, the AfD and links to Putin. Go in hard before the weeds spread.

Musk called DOGE “maximally transparent,” but it has refused to release info about its spending and operations — including the names of its employees. ProPublica has identified 46 of them, including 12 new names we've just added.

Who could have guessed that the former leader of the Proud Boys—convicted of sedition because of January 6th—would, after Trump pardoned him, start to harass the hero cops of January 6th? Who could ever have guessed it? (This went down at the Principles First conference in D.C.)

Musk’s team is laying off staff at the agency that investigated Tesla crashes

Whistleblower warns that the “neo-reactionary movement advocates a form of “techno-monarchism” where the CEO-ruler uses “data systems/AI/algorithms to rule & implement policies.” With Trump as the ‘tool’. This piece from @bylinetimes.bsky.social would have been unimaginable a month ago.

Musk again expressed his support for the far right AfD, this time by sharing a video with a speech by Höcke—who holds the most extreme far right positions. I am not clear what those still on X are waiting for; nor why X is not being banned. There is no way to understate the danger Musk and X pose.

another Nazi salute at CPAC

Be clear. $8 billion was an error. They misread $8 million! And it’s not saving. It’s cutting services, necessary research, assistance to millions here and overseas, and enforcement of laws that protect consumers and workers.

Meta and X gave the green light to AI-generated ads that called for the gassing of immigrants in concentration camps and the burning of synagogues ahead of Germany’s federal elections on Feb. 23. www.adweek.com/media/meta-a...

Scarily plausible

Fiasco for Elon Musk on multiple fronts: *Top Trump officials telling employees to defy his latest diktat *GOPers facing wave of voter revolt at home *Embarrassing revelations of fake "savings" mounting *Large majorities disapprove of Musk in many polls *Trump's own pollster urging GOP reset

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

I think there should be more talk about: "Of course, he won. One dude put almost $45,000,000,00 behind electing him, and all of the biggest media outlets in America tacitly endorsed him by normalizing his authoritarianism." Anger about one dude stealing what we've all built can neutralize despair.

Multiple reports of drivers doing spontaneous sieg heil salutes at protesters today, including in one case from someone I know personally. What is being normalized is monstrous and dangerous; every day we step closer to the abyss

“More than a quarter of the contracts listed by DOGE were actually already paid, the Journal found, saving no money. For instance, DOGE listed $168,000 in savings for terminating a contract with HHS for an Anthony Fauci museum exhibit. It had already been fully paid.” www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Ooh, I know: the Black guy and the woman. Not qwhite sure why, though.

“After Brexit, the fantasists who promoted withdrawal from EU were lost in a dream that Britain could join an “Anglosphere” dominated by the United States – a delusion the actual United States never showed smallest interest in sharing” @nickcohen.bsky.social nickcohen.substack.com/p/can-europe...

Brilliant but devastating editorial in the Financial Times. “In the past 10 days, he [Trump] has all but incinerated 80 years of postwar American leadership. If you are not at the table, you are on the menu. America has turned.”

I mean it's drugs. And he's genuinely not very bright. And insane. but it's also 45 years of right wing and libertarian propaganda telling people that all government is always inherently bad. they genuinely don't understand how anything works.

OK honest question what is the root of this? Is this just how you think on drugs?

Fuck this "Canada as 51st state" framing. Why are we allowing the narrative to be set in this way? The framing should be "America starting an illegal war with Canada" because THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

📄 NEW: "A Constructive Approach to the American Meltdown" We're past the point of warning about impending authoritarianism — it's here. As we cross the event horizon into becoming a failed state, a new kind of citizenship is required. My latest. america2.news/a-constructi...

Hegseth says firing of top military lawyers was about making sure "they don't exist to be roadblocks to anything that happens."

U.S. threatened to cut off Musk’s Starlink to Ukraine in mineral negotiations, says report

NEW: The Trump/Musk blitzkrieg aims to destroy government to advance oligarchy & autocracy—and to crush the Democrats & the progressive agenda. It's an existential crisis. Yet so many Dems are missing in action. In my OUR LAND newsletter, I ask, WTF? Pls share. link.motherjones.com/public/38721...

Wait. It gets worse: "The new document states that the revenues will be directed to a fund in which the United States holds 100 percent financial interest, and that Ukraine should contribute to the fund until it reaches $500 billion....The US has allocated $119 billion for aid to Ukraine."

It is disgusting. Not only must Ukraine accept this blackmail, it must do so while also accepting the loss of 20% of its territory. That’s not ‘peace’ it is extortion.

I literally reported this Wednesday.

No one knows Medicaid politics better than Jonathan. I think what he's saying here Trump is going to back giant cuts to Medicaid that will uninsure millions, then lie and say he's just cutting waste and count on his ability to sell that lie while Democrats scramble.

This brief exchange perfectly sums up the current state of the post-truth online information space.

UPDATE: Meta is continuing to censor anti-Musk ads. It has removed a Facebook ad calling for a boycott of Tesla, saying that it violates the company's policy on "unacceptable business practices" muskwatch.com/subscribe
